Job Description Job Summary This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job. The Director of Construction is responsible for creating strategies and developing, managing, and implementing large/complex construction projects for Stanford Medicine Children's Health. This position will have overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to programs/projects and methods. Responsible for identification, prevention and/or resolution of major construction issues and claims and is responsible for working with construction consultants and attorneys to assess and minimize risk in construction projects. The Director of Construction will work within the project formulation processes to ensure that thoughtful, timely and informed decisions are made in support of the Hospital Strategic Plan, as well as interface with a wide variety of Hospital staff, including CEO, COO, Medical Directors and offices to identify institutional objectives and their requirements. Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct. * Contributes to and executes functional strategy for all aspects of construction projects at Stanford Medicine Children's Health ensuring enablement and alignment with the broader organizational initiatives. Sets Priorities and manages and allocates resources to align with departmental and organizational needs. *Provides strategic input, direction, and oversees/manages large-scale construction implementation projects from end to end. Collaborates with contractors and design professionals in obtaining the necessary approvals and permits ensuring compliance at all stages of the project. *Partners with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure capital projects and programs are in line with the organization's goals. Drives business decisions and creates short and long-term goals and objectives. Identifies and resolves complex technical, operational, and organizational problems, applying critical thinking to recommend standards and operating strategies that mitigate risk and propel growth. *Collaborates with the Executive Director and Senior Vice President to prepare, analyze, and present budget and get programs/projects approved. Manages department budget and expenses by reviewing plan design objectives, utilization trends, expense projections and recommending alternative options. Provides budget updates as needed. * In collaboration with the Executive Director, negotiates contracts for construction and professional service providers with outside vendors/contractors. Manages relations with vendors and contractors. Evaluates performance, provides improvement feedback, and makes changes as necessary. * Directs the design, construction and related professional service providers. Reviews the master schedule by integrating the design professionals and contractor provided schedules. * Participates in regularly scheduled management meetings with team members. Participates in the design and implementation of information systems. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university. Additional Information Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
