The Executive Director for Planning, Design, and Construction is responsible for setting the overall strategy, design, implementation, communication, and administration of construction projects for all new and existing facilities for Stanford Medicine Children's Health. Reviews and developments policies that directly relate to project management services for Stanford Medicine Children's Health facilities programming, planning, design, construction and activation of capital construction projects, and that coordinate with planning, operations and academic priorities. Assures all projects are compliant with applicable laws, building codes, energy and sustainability guidelines, and standards of good practice governing the safety of hospital and outpatient facilities.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Sets the overall strategy, design, implementation, communication, and administration for all phases of construction projects for new and existing facilities, aligning to Stanford Medicine Children's Health's multi-year capital plan. Responsible for strategic planning, establishing goals and objectives, controlling costs and improving efficiency and delivery effectiveness, ensuring construction projects meet schedule and budget objectives.

* Provides both strategic and tactical leadership on all aspects of Planning, Design, and Construction ensuring enablement and alignment with the broader organization's initiatives and capital plans. Applies lean concepts and tools to promote ownership of operational performance and reinforce continual improvement efforts.

* Identifies and resolves highly complex/unusual business problems, applying advance analytical thought and judgement which may have long-term impact on the organization or multiple departments.

* Provides oversight for compliance with applicable laws and regulatory needs including HCAI and sustainability guidelines. Develops and revises policies and procedures as needed. Develops outreach programs to communicate the policies, procedures and priority of project management services, to the clients served by the department. Issue updates to user community groups as required.

* Develops excellent relationships and works closely with key stakeholders at Stanford Medicine Children's Health, core shared services departments (i.e., land use, contracting, procurement), municipalities, and regulatory agencies. Monitors and respond effectively to audit findings.

* Establishes and plays a key role in maintaining partnership with vendors and third-party consultants. Develops, reviews, revises, and approves contracts and invoices for architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors for assigned capital projects.

* Responsible for overall departmental budget management to ensure the achievement of functional and budget/financial goals.

* Participates on key SMCH committees. Prepare materials for the Facilities Taskforce of the Stanford Medicine Children's Health Board of Directors.

* Actively participate in the campus disaster preparedness (i.e. Earthquake preparedness) and recovery program as applied to facilities coordination.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

* Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.

* Experience: Ten (10) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

* Licensure/Certification: None Required

* Demonstrated ability to budget, make financial projections including strong analytical skills and ability to prepare meaningful reports for the executive leadership

* The ability to guide and coach subordinate managers toward successful completion of highly complex construction projects within schedule and budget objectives

* Ability to handle potentially sensitive situations by applying consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups to gain understanding and reach acceptance of optimal decisions

* Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility

* Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management

* Ability to plan, organize, motivate, mentor, direct and evaluate the work of others

* Ability to prioritize work by making informed judgments and to develop solutions for complex problems

* Ability to provide leadership and influence others

* Ability to read, comprehend, and draft legal and technical documents

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $95.59 to $126.74
