Responsibilities

Summary:
The Mental Health Professional develops, organizes, and conducts programs to provide treatment for conditions and problems relating to substance use disorder and mental health conditions. The position conducts or assists in conducting individual and group counseling sessions and programs. The position uses, and models principles of the "What Works" system through evidence-based practices in all interactions with participants and other staff members and may maintain a caseload of up to thirty (30) participants.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Mental Health Professional is responsible for delivery of assessments, interpreting results, maintaining a caseload, and facilitating individual and group sessions for participants receiving Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Treatment and Co-Occurring Enhanced Treatment.
  • Implements, coordinates, and conducts a program for chemically dependent and co-occurring participants.
  • The Mental Health Professional monitors service delivery for caseload of program participants from intake to discharge.
  • Provides therapeutic services within the scope of local certification, licensure, and credentialing authorities and in accordance with contract assurances and prohibitions.
  • The Mental Health Professional is responsible for caseload counseling of assigned participants, including individual and group counseling.
  • Responsible for maintenance of case records in accordance with appropriate department, state, and federal standards.
  • Clinical documentation shall include, but is not limited to; Psychosocial Assessments, Case Notes, Individual Service Plans, Relapse Prevention Plans, Discharge Summaries.
  • The Mental Health Professional participates in case diagnostic and technical staff conferences concerning the participant as well as participating in classification hearings, if needed.
  • Prepares and submits all reports, as requested, to the Clinical Director.
  • Participates in staff training.
  • Assists with the development and enforcement of site policies and procedures. Reviews all transition related material (Individual Service Plan, Relapse Prevention Plan, Continuum of Care Plan, Discharge Summary) prior to participants' release.
  • Develops personal weekly schedules meeting participants' needs and reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree program from an accredited college or university in a mental health related field such as Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing or other Behavioral Health area.
  • Qualified Substance Abuse Professional I (QSAP I)-Licensed in the State of Alabama as a Professional Counselor, Certified Social Worker, Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, or Physician's Assistant.
  • Six (6) months post master's relevant clinical experience or a physician who has completed an approved residency in psychiatry.
  • Two (2) years' experience in a mental health or substance abuse treatment setting preferred.
  • Copy of professional license to remain on file at the facility where services are rendered at all times.
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature of social work with particular reference to clinical social work; psychological or social aspects of mental and developmental and physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of community organization principles; scope and activities of public and private health and welfare agencies; characteristics of mental, developmental, and physical disabilities; current trends in mental health, public health and public welfare, and Federal and State programs in these fields.
  • Ability to utilize and effectively apply the required technical knowledge.
  • Ability to establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of persons contacted within the context of work.
  • Ability to secure accurate psycho and social data and record such data systematically.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and concise reports.
  • Ability to work family and community agencies in preparation for discharge.
  • Ability to develop and implement programs.
  • Ability to provide professional consultation; analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written or verbal modes.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
