- Certified by the state as a nurse's aide, with completion of required training and a passing score of 85% or higher on the agency's competency exam; additional requirements vary by state (e.g. CHHA in CA/NJ, CGNA in MD).
- CPR certification required for direct patient care in Georgia and Washington.
- Must be listed on the state aide registry with a clear record and eligible to provide care in homes, nursing facilities, or hospitals.
- Requires a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and state-required auto insurance.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, hands-on care to hospice patients during periods of crisis, including bathing, grooming, toileting, repositioning, mobility assistance, and other personal care tasks, under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Deliver continuous bedside support in patient homes or care facilities, maintaining comfort and dignity through frequent physical activity such as standing, walking, lifting (up to 200 lbs with assistance), and assisting with daily living needs.
- Monitor and promptly report changes in patient condition to the clinical team, ensuring timely updates to the plan of care and continuity of comfort-focused support.
- Offer emotional support to patients and families, helping prepare them for the end-of-life process, and upholding compassionate care.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care provided, and collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality care in accordance with hospice protocols and safety standards.
