Imaging/Radiology RN (Perdiem Day Shift)

An Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in supporting interventional radiologists during minimally invasive procedures. Below are some of the key responsibilities of an IR RN:



  1. Patient Assessment and Preparation:
  2. Conduct pre-procedural assessments, including reviewing medical histories and current medications.
  3. Educate patients and their families about the procedures, including potential risks and benefits.
  4. Ensure patients provide informed consent.
  5. Prepare patients physically and emotionally for the procedure, including starting IV lines and administering pre-procedural medications.
  6. Assisting During Procedures:
  7. Assist the interventional radiologist in setting up and maintaining a sterile field.
  8. Monitor patients' vital signs and overall condition throughout the procedure.
  9. Administer medications and contrast agents as directed by the radiologist.
  10. Post-Procedure Care:
  11. Monitor patients during recovery, checking vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort.
  12. Educate patients and their families on post-procedural care and any necessary follow-up steps.
  13. Document the patient's condition and any notable changes in their medical records.
  14. Coordination and Communication:
  15. Collaborate with technologists, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a seamless workflow.
  16. Communicate patient needs and concerns with the medical team promptly.
  17. Coordinate care with other departments, such as scheduling follow-up appointments or additional imaging studies.
  18. Emergency Response:
  19. Be prepared to respond to any complications or emergencies that arise during or after the procedure.
  20. Use critical thinking skills to assess and intervene in a timely manner to stabilize patients.
  21. Administrative Duties:
  22. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all procedures, patient interactions, and clinical notes.
  23. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulations, and best practice standards.


By performing these duties, Interventional Radiology RNs play a vital role in ensuring that patients receive safe, high-quality care during complex and often life-saving interventional procedures.

In our Imaging department our RNs are integral members of a dynamic team, rotating daily between MRI, ultrasound, CT and the pavilion. Our skilled nurses assist in a variety of interventional radiology (IR) procedures and general radiology procedures as needed. They are responsible for monitoring patients both pre-and post-procedure maintaining a sterile field, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. Our RNs diligently monitor vital signs , ensure patient comfort, and provide thorough educations to patients and their families regarding post-procedural care and necessary follow ups.

Collaboration is key in our department with our RNs working closely with IR physicians and technologists to delivery exceptional care. They are trained to respond swiftly and effectively to any complications or emergencies that may arise during or after procedures, utilizing critical thinking skills to assess situations and intervene promptly to stabilize patients when necessary. Required Qualifications:



  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • California Registered Nurse License upon hire.
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
  • 1 year Nursing experience.
