Position description

Junior or Assistant Specialist - Raleigh lab

The Specialist will be responsible for (1) extracting DNA and RNA from meningioma tumor samples, (2) processing serum samples for calculation of blood hormone, metabolite, protein, and nucleic acid levels, (3) generation of sequencing libraries, (4) generation of sequencing data, (5) bioinformatic analyses, and (6) collaborative investigating on projects involving these samples which emanate from a new multi-institutional U54 SPORE award to understand patient and environmental factors contributing to meningioma biology and clinical outcomes.

Required Qualifications:



  • Junior Specialist - Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in the basic sciences (biology) or at least four years of research experience.
  • Assistant Specialist - Master's degree in the basic sciences (biology) or a baccalaureate degree in the basic sciences (biology) with 3 or more years of research experience.
  • Familiarity and experience with bioinformatics.
  • Exceptional capacity for teamwork including receiving feedback and altering workflows to accommodate the overall scientific aims of the group.
  • Leadership capability with a track record of scientific and professional mentorship, punctuality, timely responsiveness to email, lab notebook maintenance, data analysis, lab organization experience.
