Job Description:

Director, Nursing- Med Surg Units

Directs the operations of designated patient care units/departments and assists the Vice President of Nursing in the 24-hour management of nursing care to patients within the inpatient nursing departments. Responsible for managing, monitoring, and evaluating nursing/patient care systems and patient outcomes attributable to nursing/patient care practices. The position is also responsible for resource management, policy and program development, fiscal management, and for establishing and maintaining effective communication within the hospital, the community, and in the professional environment.

Job Duties:

  • Delegate authority and accountability to patient care managers for appropriate clinical practice and patient care decisions.
  • Identifies leadership developmental needs of direct report managers and facilitates skills development. Serves as a mentor to direct report managers and others with leadership potential.
  • Identifies patient care practice issues which require investigation and initiates appropriate activities to address them.
  • Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
  • Promotes collegial relationships through collaboration with other departments, physicians, and outside agencies to meet the identified needs of patients and the organization.
  • Chairs interdisciplinary committees within the institution that focus on patient care issues.

Requirements:

  • Current licensure as an RN by the Kentucky Board of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required within three (3) years of hire
  • 3 years of job-related experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is preferred
  • Advanced Nursing or Management Specialty certification is preferred
