The Department of Chemistry takes pride in high-quality coursework and student-centered research, led by award-winning faculty. Currently, the department has about 300 students who are pursuing BS degrees in chemistry, BS degrees in biochemistry, or MS degrees in Chemistry. Multiple certificate programs are also available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Department of Chemistry invites applicants to apply for a part time instructor position during the 2025-26 academic year. The hired candidate will teach 8 courses: four in the fall and four in the spring. Courses to be assigned may include sections of: CHEM 2031 General Chemistry 1, CHEM 2061 General Chemistry 2, CHEM 3018 Inorganic Chemistry Lab, CHEM 3401 Survey of Organic Chemistry, CHEM 3498 Majors' Organic Chemistry 2 Lab, CHEM 4221/5221 Practical Applications of Spectroscopy, and CHEM 4810 General Chemistry 1.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or closely related field
  • Three years of experience teaching chemistry in higher education institutions

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • More than three years' experience teaching chemistry in higher education institutions.
  • Previous experience in teaching the following courses:
    • Foundation of Chemistry
    • General Chemistry 1 & 2
    • Organic Chemistry 1 & 2
    • Organic Chemistry Lab
    • Inorganic Chemistry
    • Inorganic Chemistry Lab
    • Biochemistry
    • Forensic Chemistry
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching as measured by student feedback, high-quality syllabi, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner, across various modalities.
  • Ability to effectively listen and share relevant information.
  • Ability to establish and balance multiple work priorities, follow through, and meet established deadlines.
  • Intentionally contribute to a respectful, equitable, positive, and professional workplace.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Understanding of the needs of a diverse student population and needs.
  • Strong commitment to student education and success.
  • Experience in online or hybrid delivery.
  • Evidence of high-quality teaching, including the development/use of grading rubrics, and high student satisfaction.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $49,289.60.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is/is not eligible for overtime compensation.
