The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Position Summary |
VetView Application Developer plays a key role in the ongoing development, support, and evolution of VetView, an integrated Hospital Information System (
HIS) and Laboratory Information Management System (
LIMS) used in veterinary teaching hospitals and diagnostic laboratories. This position is part of a collaborative Agile development team responsible for delivering scalable, maintainable, and user-centered solutions that support clinical care, laboratory operations, and business processes.
VetView Application Developer will work across the full software development lifecycle-gathering requirements, designing solutions, writing clean and maintainable code, testing, deploying, and supporting production systems. This role also has a strong focus on documentation, ensuring that technical design, code, and user-facing functionality are well documented for both internal teams and system users.
The ideal candidate is an adaptable team player with strong technical skills and a desire to create impactful software solutions for veterinary clinical care and diagnostics.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Proficiency with Java (Spring Framework preferred), SQL (PostgreSQL or similar), and web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum or similar).
- Familiarity with source control (Git), issue tracking (Jira or similar), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to thorough and clear documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a distributed, multidisciplinary team.
- Prior experience in healthcare, laboratory, or veterinary systems or workflows is a plus.

Software Development:
- Design, develop, and maintain application features in VetView's hospital and laboratory modules using Java, SQL, and web technologies.
- Participate fully in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, standups, code reviews, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
- Work collaboratively with product owners, clinical users, and technical staff to translate business needs and workflows into functional software solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues and complete new feature development.
- Contribute to database design, optimization, and query development for efficient, accurate data operations.
- Support system integrations, including HL7 interfaces, laboratory instruments, and financial systems.
- Participate in ongoing efforts to improve code quality, testing practices, and system performance.
