ABOUT THE POSITION
We are seeking a highly motivated casual/temp researcher who will assist in the scanning of hearts and creating 3D models of the cardiac conduction system. These models will be used for virtual reality education and outreach purposes.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Must be shown on application materials
* Undergraduate degree in the animal sciences, biological sciences, or related health sciences.
* Completed intro coursework in anatomy and biology lab courses
* Flexible schedule based on study days and outreach activities
* Must be able to lift 50lbs by oneself, must be able to sit and stand for long periods
* Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
* Ability to work well independently or as part of a fast-paced research team

Preferred
* Graduate degree in animal sciences, biological sciences, or related health sciences
* Experience with (or ability to learn) segmentation software: Euclis, Materialize, Mimics, CAD, and/or 3-matic
* Exposure with the uses of virtual or augmented reality to teaching
* Exposure to 3D printing, with willingness to learn more

About the Department

The Visible Heart Laboratories is a preclinical laboratory focusing on the reanimation of large mammalian and human hearts under simulated physiologic conditions to better visualize the function of cardiac anatomy, as well as the ability to investigate device-tissue interfaces, with the intent of furthering medical device invention and physician/academic training.
The Visible Heart Laboratories embody a creative atmosphere which is energized by some of the best and brightest students at the University. Our lab staff has over 100 years of collective research experience and functions as a highly efficient and productive team. Dr. Paul A. Iaizzo has been at the University of Minnesota since 1990, performing research and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses. In 1997, Dr. Iaizzo and his coworkers began working on large mammalian isolated heart models, and thus the Visible Heart Laboratories were created in collaboration with Medtronic. Today, these labs are a premiere place to perform translational systems physiology research which ranges from cellular and tissue studies to organ and whole body investigations. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $17-$28.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment: 4-5 hours a week
Work Location: Hybrid - remote work combined with in-person work at Visible Heart Lab
