Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Senior Applications Engineering Manager to lead its dynamic engineering team. This is a high-impact role responsible for driving innovation, optimizing manufacturing processes, and managing technical initiatives across a range of wire and cable production operations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and technical expert with a solid background in manufacturing, team leadership, and process improvement methodologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of process, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
- Design, develop, and continuously improve manufacturing processes including wire drawing, stranding, insulating, and jacketing operations.
- Oversee and execute capital projects such as equipment installations, upgrades, and facility layout changes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Maintenance, Quality, and R&D) to drive product quality and operational excellence.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives including Lean, Six Sigma, and TPM to boost efficiency and reduce costs.
- Provide hands-on support for troubleshooting equipment and process issues on the production floor.
- Ensure full compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.
- Approve technical documentation including engineering drawings, process instructions, and specifications.
- Manage relationships with vendors and equipment suppliers to support production needs.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets and resource planning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
- 10-15 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with a minimum of 10 years in leadership or managerial roles.
- Deep knowledge of wire and cable manufacturing processes such as extrusion, cross-linking, shielding, and cabling.
- Proven success in executing capital projects and implementing continuous improvement strategies.
- Proficient in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and process simulation/modeling software.
- Strong project management, leadership, and team development skills.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as NEC, IEEE, UL, RoHS, and ASTM.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems (i.e., SAP) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Experience with ISO 9001 quality systems is strongly preferred.
- Strong conceptual, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills required.
- Ability to travel up to 25% as needed for site visits, vendor meetings, or project implementations.
