Job Description:

Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Project Assistant II to work within the Bureau of Chronic Disease Evaluation and Research. The Hourly Project Assistant II will support the creation of data products and visualizations to accompany the release of the 2025-2030 New York State Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan. The 2025-2030 Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan is a cancer prevention and control roadmap with priority areas, measurable objectives, and suggested strategies to reduce the cancer burden in New York State.

This position will assist in the following activities:

  • Analyze population-based survey data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System using SAS

  • Summarize previously analyzed data from state and national data sources

  • Create visually appealing data products including fact sheets, infographics, and webpage content

  • Build understanding of interest holders by networking with Bureau and Division colleagues and New York State Cancer Consortium Partners through attending meetings

This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program. It is made available through funding from the Centers for Disease Control's Public Health Infrastructure Grant to expand opportunities to strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a relevant training program or pursuing a related degree or certificate in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate student currently enrolled in a Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related degree program

  • Experience with data analysis in SAS or related statistical software

  • Experience with analyzing or summarizing data by demographics or social determinants of health

  • Experience creating data products including fact sheets, infographics, or data presentations

Conditions of Employment

Hourly, grant funded position expected until approximately 11/28/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, 10% of the time, will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will not be available.
