Job Description

YOUR OPPORTUNITY


We have an exciting Transportation Management Trainee opportunity. The Management Trainee will gain knowledge and training within Seaboard Foods' transportation and transportation support departments. Trainees will work across various departments to familiarize themselves in market haul, inner-company transport, truck wash, and proper animal handling procedures. Trainees will gain exposure in the driver hiring process, scheduling, vehicle registration, regulations, transportation safety, and quality assurance.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Understand the flow between production and transportation including inner-company scheduling, feed haul, loadout crews, market haul, truck wash, and reclaim haul.
  • Understand Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and transportation safety, as well as become trained in proper animal handling procedures and Transportation Quality Assurance (TQA).
  • Assist in creating driver schedules, recruitment of drivers, communication with drivers, and billing/invoicing of loads.
  • Maintain vehicle listings, registration, insurance licensing, inventory, code invoices, complete transportation reports, JJ Kellar updates, and assist with payroll.
  • Complete monthly reports and distribute to management, including vehicle mileage logs and truck wash data.
  • Maintain driver logs, management reporting, pre and post trip inspection reports, and vehicle orders according to DOT requirements.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS


Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in ag business from a four-year university or college or related, an associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good critical thinking and judgement skills to reach the best possible solution to a problem.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people such as employees, managers, and senior management.
  • Flexible and able to work on assigned weekends and be on call at all times of the day and week, when assigned, to resolve any issues that arise.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and ability to pass DOT physical and obtain medical card. Valid Driver's License is required.



SCHEDULE



  • The schedule will vary based on business needs. After-hours, weekends, and overnight travel as requested.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • The work environment is in an office setting which is typically quiet.
  • Employee will be required to travel to operations locations and may occasionally be near moving mechanical parts and will be exposed to airborne particles and gases at low concentrations.
  • The employee will be exposed to waste material, feed and hog dust when in operations locations.
