Responsibilities
The Cloud Architect will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of Development, Pre-Production, and Production cloud environments for the CODIS Unit. This role is responsible for shaping a robust, secure, and scalable multi-cloud infrastructure to support the evolving needs of forensic DNA applications, ensuring seamless operations across various cloud platforms and delivering high-availability services to the forensic community.
Active Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance)
- Architect, implement, and support secure and scalable cloud environments (Development, Pre-Production, Production) for CODIS applications.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation using Azure DevOps, Terraform, and related toolchains.
- Oversee deployment and orchestration of containerized microservices leveraging Kubernetes and Docker.
- Integrate and configure key cloud-native tools and services including RabbitMQ, Keycloak, Linkerd, NGINX, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and more.
- Collaborate with software engineering and operations teams to support application development and system reliability.
- Ensure efficient and secure use of cloud resources in both Azure and AWS, following best practices for cloud service provisioning, cost management, and governance.
- Provide expertise in cloud networking, identity management, and infrastructure security for all phases of solution delivery.
- Oversee migration and interoperability between on-premise, cloud, and hybrid architectures.
- Support monitoring, performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, and incident response for cloud environments.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for cloud architectures and operations procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience as a cloud architect or similar role designing and operating complex cloud platforms.
- Experience in highly regulated, mission-critical, or government technology environments.
- CODIS experience supporting law enforcement or government forensic informatics projects.
- Expertise with Azure DevOps 2022, Visual Studio 2022, and Git for Windows.
- Prior experience deploying and managing microservices with Kubernetes and Docker.
- Familiarity with API development/management using Swagger.
- Experience with Keycloak for authentication and access management.
- Skilled in RabbitMQ messaging, Linkerd service mesh, and NGINX for traffic management.
- Experience with frontend and full-stack technologies including Blazor.
- Proficient in search infrastructure using Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Software development expertise in .NET, C#, JavaScript, and Java (SpringBoot framework).
- Proficient in infrastructure as code via Terraform.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain components in AWS and manage resources in Azure.
- Database experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2019.
- Strong operational background in Linux environments.
- Data interchange and schema skills with XML/XSD and JSON.
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
Pay Transparency Statement
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $129,800.00/Yr. - USD $216,700.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
