About the Position Are you an engineer who is tired of the downsides of private consultancy: working too many hours or always searching for new jobs and clients? At the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, we provide our Civil Engineers with consistency and the opportunity to balance work with their social life. As a Civil Engineer, you can expect a consistent 40-hour a week schedule that will challenge and encourage you to learn new aspects of engineering. This position also has the option to allow for part-week teleworking, a 9/80 flex schedule, or flexible core business hours. You will work with a team of Professional Engineers, Engineer Associates, and Technicians to conduct a variety of tasks, such as providing preliminary information through pre-application meetings, reviewing construction projects and issuing permits, and providing project management to customers on complicated permits. You will review a variety of projects while ensuring they meet applicable regulations or ensuring that new development safeguards the District's numerous flood control structures. We Require
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, etc.), Landscape Architecture, Surveying, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field Two years of engineering experience Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment

Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and construction drawings Familiarity with FEMA Standards or the Floodplain Regulations for Maricopa County Demonstrated experience in the use of GIS mapping and hydraulic modeling software, including FLO-2D, HEC-RAS, and FlowMaster Experience with section 408 permitting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Certified Floodplain Manager designation
Job Contributions
Review, approve, and issue permits for work within floodplains or within Flood Control District rights-of-way. Ensure that submittals are in compliance with applicable standards and regulations Represent the Flood Control District in various meetings with other governmental agencies, the public, and respond to internal and external requests, and provide technical recommendations/assistance Coordinate with other Flood Control District staff, communities, and government agencies; represent the Flood Control District at meetings with those organizations and the public; and respond to information requests by examining, investigating, and editing documents and reports Provide assistance and training to engineer associates and technicians within the Floodplain Permitting division of the Flood Control District Other job duties as assigned
