Reporting to the Senior Director, this Assistant Director role has primary responsibility for the complex tasks associated with student housing assignments and related billing. The Assistant Director will provide direct management of the daily operation and assignments for new and returning students within our housing management system, The Housing Director (THD). This includes the housing assignment process for incoming students, the selection process for returning students, and room changes in coordination with other Residential Communities and Housing (RCH) staff.
The Assistant Director assists in the planning of future housing needs and residence hall designations, prepares occupancy reports, inputs all data into THD system, and performs all updates concerning room changes and appropriate charges, creating reports and selection strategies for assignment process and maintains and updates board charges specific to room assignments in cooperation with Student Accounts.
The Assistant Director serves in an on-call duty rotation to support other Housing & Residence Life staff with after-hours emergencies (low-touch, approximately 2 weeks per semester), as such, this role is a live-in position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Serve on the leadership team of the Residential Communities and Housing (RCH) office which works toward the advancement of an innovative and engaging approach to community building to create a vibrant student residential experience.
- Implement undergraduate housing assignment processes, including first-year, returning and transfer students, and timelines for each, in collaboration with the Senior Director, and regularly review processes and procedures to propose opportunities for improvement to best support resident students and improve operational efficiency.
- Coordinate room change, break housing and end-of-year move out processes for resident students through direct communication and indirect outreach with RCH staff.
- Responsible for on-campus housing billing, including coordination with Student Accounts to ensure billing information is received in a timely and accurate manner. Independently manage housing records of students who withdraw or readmit.
- Develop and execute marketing and communication strategies to support housing assignment processes, including email, print, digital and social media, website, and in-person events.
- Oversee the management, operation and use of The Housing Director (THD), our housing management solution and the student-facing portal including set-up of processes, data management and integrity, and reporting.
- Maintain high visibility and engagement with the student body and campus community at university events; work effectively with a culturally diverse population of students to support and coach dynamic needs.
- Training RCH student and professional staff on the use of THD to enable effective utilization of the system, access to information and response to inquiries.
- Serve as a point of contact for RCH for CBORD card access systems. Troubleshoot and resolve resident student and staff card access issues. Mitigate risk for University by regularly reviewing card access permissions, running access reports and adjusting access as needed.
- Generate occupancy statistics and other reports as needed to support housing assignment operations and needs of internal and external campus partners.
- Investigate and respond to inquiries, concerns and complaints from students, parents/guardians and campus partners in a manner that provides accurate information, resolves issues in accordance with department policies and procedures and provides rationale for decisions. This requires a working understanding of University policies, procedures and programs related to Student Life and specialized knowledge of housing policies administered through Residential Communities and Housing.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with Student Life, Campus Safety, Community Values and Student Conduct, Admission, Registrar, Student Accounts Office, Dining, Adirondack Solutions, CBord, and other internal and external campus partners.
- Serve as an on-call professional for the University. Manage crisis situations; provide on-call response and report maintenance concerns. In addition, be available after-hours to provide housing information and support to other staff during an after-hours crisis and emergency.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervise students as applicable. QUALIFICATIONS Required:
An earned Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant professional experience. An ability to accommodate occasional extended work hours, including evening and weekend work hours. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people. Must have a current, valid driver's license and must be insurable under Denison's liability insurance policy. Proven ability to provide effective management of complex processes and projects. Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives at once; ability to take direction and initiative. Communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to engage in one-on-one and in public forum. Demonstrated experience in student development, student involvement, leadership development, housing, residential education, or restorative conduct processes. Competent in fulfilling administrative duties and managing systems. Demonstrated background in working with small teams to accomplish tasks and meet stated goals and objectives.

An earned Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or other related advanced degree. Professional work experience in residential life, specifically related to housing assignments, operations or system management. Demonstrated experience working with The Housing Director, including complex report writing. Demonstrated experience working with CSGold, including patron and ID card management. A propensity for innovation and creative problem solving. An understanding and appreciation for the liberal arts and residential colleges; and enjoys working with college students.
