Director of Solar & BESS Operations

Your Job

DEPCOM is looking for a Director of Solar & BESS Operations to join the Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team that is responsible for operating solar and battery storage power plants located across the United States. The ideal candidate will use economic thinking to drive decisions, problem solving skills, good communication, experience formalizing and implementing processes and procedures, and driving change. This position is located at DEPCOM's remote operations center in Scottsdale, AZ and may require occasional travel.

Our Team

In this role, you will be accountable for the performance and compliance of our remote operations center, while working with our field maintenance teams, performance engineering, and sales teams to lead the operations department for DEPCOM Services.

What You Will Do

• Lead by example, emphasizing safety as the number one priority and creating a learning environment that keeps the operations team well connected with the maintenance field team and opportunities to support hazard mitigation
• Mentor and empower direct reports through regular feedback, identifying growth opportunities, and fostering a supportive environment that drives professional development and skill-building
• Use Principle Based Management frameworks to enhance knowledge, understanding, and value creation at the Operations Center
• Partner with the maintenance and performance engineering teams to grow knowledge networks that will help maximize production at our plants
• Provide leadership and strategic guidance for DEPCOM's NERC program and all regulatory compliance responsibilities
• Drive a strong sense of stewardship through the operations team's use of measures to prioritize daily focus, timely responsiveness, and contract adherence
• Innovative use of technology to improve efficiency and deeper understanding of plant performance and opportunities for improvement
• Use economic thinking to support O&M new business growth by partnering with Services Sales and recruitment to create long-term value through opportunities that meet our frameworks
• Maintain relationships with internal and external partners to promote mutual benefit
• Empower your team to be principled entrepreneurs, driving bottom-up solutions to close gaps through economic thinking and good stewardship
• Partner with KES IT to represent and ensure DEPCOM's operational technology and cybersecurity strategy transforms to meet customer needs and market demands

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Experience leading teams responsible for operating critical infrastructure assets
• Experience in customer-facing role
• Experience solving technical problems with innovation
• Demonstrated success leading change management efforts

What Will Put You Ahead

• Demonstrated success applying Principle Based Management to achieve business results
• Experience leading operations for power generation facilities, particularly in utility-scale solar, and/or battery energy storage power plants
• Understanding of electrical theory, high voltage transmission and distribution systems, protective relaying and controls systems
• Engineering degree

For this role, we anticipate paying $165k - $190k per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
