Job Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for developing, defining, reviewing, and analyzing production processes. Responsible for identifying process and workflow improvements that will optimize processes and make them more efficient. Responsible for generating and updating plant control plans and PFMEA's. Responsible for introduction of new products into production and ensuring their manufacturability. Responsible for Green jobs, accuracy of work instructions and product flow, as well as technical troubleshooting of new and modified products. Responsible for leading teams to ensure the most efficient methods are used to build products and ensuring adequate tools are available when new products are launched. Responsible for training and mentoring other Manufacturing Engineers and training production personnel in new processes or equipment. Responsible for identifying and evaluating product cost savings options. Responsible for identifying and managing the introduction of new equipment and technologies to improve processes.
- Develop and maintain efficient manufacturing processes and procedures.
- Lead the Product & Process Planning team in the planning of new or revised products and processes launch.
- Work collaboratively with Quality, Production, Sales and Scheduling as part of the Production Planning process to ensure products meet technical, quality and safety standards.
- Participate in Contract Review.
- Manage projects implementation of new equipment and technology to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
- Introduce innovative problem-solving techniques and solutions.
- Mentor less experienced manufacturing engineers.
- Serve as a back-up for the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
- Evaluate and make recommendations for cost savings and process. improvements to increase efficiency, throughput and yield.
- Mentor and train production operators on new processes or equipment.
- Apply customers concepts or blueprints to manufacturing methods to determine manufacturing feasibility.
- Create Internal Drawings and maintain MoMs.
- Create control plans and PFEMAs.
- In conjunction with Production, assess operational requirements, plan and organize workflow patterns.
- Create development and green jobs to prove-in product manufacturability.
- Oversee first production run ensuring productivity and quality targets are met.
- Review methods of manufacturing, BOMs and routings to ensure that they accurately reflect the process followed on the floor.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field and general knowledge of other related disciplines
- Demonstrable natural curiosity and critical thinking
- Ability to design and apply lean manufacturing concepts
- Ability to understand and explain processes, schematics, blueprints and/or technical manuals
- Demonstrated skill in solving highly technical problems
- Experience with Machining, Metal Fabrication, and Welding equipment and processes
- Experience with lasers and robotics.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and creating CAD drawings including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong leadership and teambuilding skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong accuracy with attention to detail
Education and Experience Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineer or related field; advanced degree preferred.
