The Academic Assistance-Nursing/Health at Georgia State University is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor II. The Academic Advisor II will assist academic departments/units with verbal or written academic plans, advisement interpretation, and implementation of University policies and procedures in the areas of student enrollment and evaluation.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

This position provides information and advises both enrolled and prospective students regarding the academic programs offered by the university or a specific department, including requirements for admission and retention through graduation. The Academic Advisor II should have a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Advisors at this level will use Banner, but more importantly, they understand how databases work then have practical experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist academic departments/units with a verbal or written academic plan.

  • Advisement interpretation and implementation of university policies and procedures in the areas of student enrollment and evaluation.

  • Coordinate the admission processing for graduate and undergraduate CNHP programs using SLATE and the internal CNHP system

  • Assists the Graduate Recruiting Manager with recruitment events and information sessions

  • Liaisons with CNHP program departments and the Office of Academic Assistance

  • Advises students on required coursework and Degree Works academic evaluation

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • One to three years of previous experience with academic advisement and/or admissions.
  • One to two years of experience in application processing.
  • One to two years of experience in student retention.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Effective oral and written communications.
  • Experience presenting to individuals as well as groups.
  • General knowledge of the higher education industry.
  • Experience with Banner, EAB, Degree Works and proprietary systems in the Office of Academic Assistance.
  • Experience with admissions recruiting.
  • Knowledge of allied health programs a plus.
