The Transportation Planner at Kimball International is responsible for planning and executing domestic shipments, ensuring on-time delivery through coordination with logistics partners. This role focuses on meeting customer delivery requirements while maintaining operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and balanced loading schedules at suppliers and warehouses.
Responsibilities: * Develop and execute transportation plans for customer orders * Ensure on-time customer delivery while maintaining balanced loading schedules at suppliers and warehouses at the lowest possible cost * Manage expedite and exception shipment requests by providing options and alternatives * Complete and process accessorial forms when applicable * Tender loads to carriers and provide accurate shipment details to ensure proper delivery * Coordinate shipments through our network of logistics service providers, including warehouse operators and domestic carriers * Maintain strong working relationships with logistics partners * Provide expedited ground freight quotes when requested * Enter and maintain logistics data in CRM and ERP systems, including logistics plans, costs, and shipping details * Assist in monitoring and reporting logistics performance metrics, including on-time shipping, carrier rejections, exceptions, and truckload details * Manage OS&D (over, short, and damaged) reports from carriers * Coordinate shipment details with Order Fulfillment in a timely and accurate manner * Maintain a customer-focused approach to resolve internal and external customer issues Skills to Perform This Role: Interpersonal Skills * Build and sustain strong professional relationships * Demonstrate trustworthiness, dependability, and a positive attitude * Provide balanced feedback and maintain professionalism under pressure Communication Skills * Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams at all organizational levels * Clearly articulate logistics issues and solutions * Exhibit strong listening, verbal, and written communication abilities Business Skills * Good business understanding of sales, manufacturing, logistics and supply chain * Must have a sound business knowledge * Must be results focused * Ability to meet deadlines * Proficient in MS Office applications Technical Skills * Ability to implement continuous improvement in business processes * Good organizational skills * Good team building and participation skills * Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines * Must have initiative and a sense of urgency The ideal candidate will be located near Jasper, IN and work primarily from of our headquarters. |
