Description

The occupant of this position will directly assist in the management, supervision and coordinating the Department of Surgery reception/access areas.


Examples of Duties

  1. ADMINISTRATION- 75%
  1. Ensures the efficient and timely performance of front staff, assigning, directions and evaluating work.
  2. Monitors quality of work and services with regards for accuracy and performance improvement within the front access.
  3. Orients and trains staff within all divisions within the Department of Surgery
  4. Established daily priorities according to workload and patient volume.
  5. Provides personal assistance to patients regarding account status, financial policies and procedures.
  6. Provides support to access staff, providers, nurses and patients to ensure quality and efficient patient processing and care within all divisions within the Department of Surgery.
  7. Ensures implementation of departmental rules, policies and procedures and recommends revisions when needed.
  8. Assist with processes related to Human Resources in accordance to the policy for clinic employees with assigned direct supervision. Approves schedules, time off, performance, interview processes, hires and implements corrective action as needed.
  9. Interprets and explains billing and departmental policies and procedures to patients, staff and providers.
  10. Compiles and organizes data related to clinic activities into reports, as well as analyzing clinic activity reports.
  11. Responsible for assisting with the Good Faith Estimate report for Department.
  12. Responsible for researching and working Missing Charge Report, Credit Balance Report, Consent to Treat Report, Insurance review reports and other related reports within the department and educating staff based on these reports.
  13. Serving as a liaison within Department of Surgery as it related to the Front Desk areas.
  14. Serves on Department committees and School wide committees as a resource for implementing new procedures.

  1. CLINIC OPERATIONS: 25%
  1. Directs and participates in staff meetings and or conferences as required.
  2. Ensures clinic areas are organized, clean and professional
  3. Ensures excellent public relations by all employees in the clinic. Ensures patient needs are met and treated with respect. Complying with Patients' Rights Laws
  4. Ensures Clinic office equipment is functioning properly and puts in for repairs as needed.
  5. Handles and/or directs business correspondence for clinics
  6. Consults Administrator with concerns and recommends corrective actions and/or solutions
  7. Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  1. Any one or any combination totaling five (5) years (60 months), from the categories below
    1. College education with course work in a business medical field such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical secretary and/or business fields such as business, finance, public administration, or social science, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    2. Work experience or ancillary service experience comparable to the Medical Office Specialist level or other positions of comparable responsibility.
