Prod Development Engineer, R & D Reports To: Design Engineering Manager, R&D Department: R&D Classification: Exempt, L2A Division: DCT Date: Aug 20th, 2025 JOB SUMMARY: The Munters R&D group develops new products for the Data Center Cooling Market. The Product Development Engineer is an essential part of the development process from concept to successful product. Engineers select components and design systems that are suitable for manufacturing, achieve cost targets, and meet customer needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works with designers to generate drawings, parts lists, and assembly drawings for Munters products.
- Selects components and organizes parts lists into modules.
- Supports new product development with conceptual designs and layouts, as needed.
- Leads or participates in group projects, designing new products.
- Participates in Kaizen and other cross-functional teams to improve designs.
- Supports continuous improvement and cost reduction activities through the ECR/ECO/ECN process
- Provides engineering expertise and/or support to other departments as needed.
- Assists in prototype builds to understand and improve the designs.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to work on large-scale projects and provide comprehensive documentation.
- Knowledge of common HVAC components such as compressors, valves, fans, heat exchangers, and sheet metal cabinets
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to successfully plan work to meet deadlines
- Design for manufacturing (DFM)
DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with designing complex assemblies that include sheet metal, piping, valves, heat exchangers, and electrical panels.
- Experience with ERP/MRP programs
- 3-5 years of industry experience with a Mechanical Engineering degree
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. This work requires sitting most of the time.
- Daily walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for sustained periods of time, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting
- Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving minor defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly and fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes
- The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
