Position Title: Contract Security Guard

Location: Olathe, KS (On-Site)

Employment Status: Full-Time Regular

FLSA Classification: SCA Hourly

*This position is contingent upon contract award

Position Summary:

The Contract Security Guard (CSG) enforces regulations and procedures designed to prevent breaches of security, exercises judgment and uses discretion in responding to incidents and emergencies, determining whether to intervene directly, ask for assistance as time permits, keep situation under control or surveillance, or to report incident or situation to the appropriate authority for handling. Duties require specialized training in methods and techniques of protecting controlled areas

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Roving patrol:

  • Conduct random patrol inspections by foot for the entire property, including perimeter and outside of buildings, fuel storage and tankers, parking lots,

  • Check the small arms storage facility during the normal roving patrols

  • Monitor intrusion alarm for normal operation. In the event of an open door or a break-in the roving patrol will be required to maintain presence until the area is secured.

Interior and Exterior Patrols:

  • Conduct interior patrols once every two hours and exterior patrols once every two hours, alternating interior and exterior patrols so that one is conducted each hour

  • Physical Inspection

  • Inspect perimeter fencing and equipment parking lots for possible forced entry

  • Inspect and report any security light unlit in a twelve-hour period

Interior Building Inspection:

  • Inspect the security of internal security containers

  • Ensure the powering down of unattended heat producing items such as space heaters and coffee pots

  • Inspect for the closure of exterior windows

  • Inspect basements and equipment rooms for security and early detection of water/steam leaks or electrical problems

  • Check the Fire Detection panel for tripped annunciations. Prior to acknowledging an annunciation at the panel, guards will go to the location indicated by the panel to verify that the indicated condition is not present or that the condition is not worse than indicated

Aircraft Inspection:

  • Any aircraft parked on the apron shall be inspected for security of all locking and tie-down devices

Patrol of Parking Areas:

  • Security of POV vehicles includes protection from break-ins, theft or damage. Security Guards will monitor vehicles for evidence of tampering

  • Security guards shall discourage the loitering of people found in the parking lot.

Controlled Entry and Exit:

  • Entry to and exit from the aviation facility building shall be controlled at all times

  • Security Guards shall assist the Control Tower personnel in gaining access should the access system fail.

  • Positively identify personnel reporting for duty during the morning

Maintenance/Safety Services:

  • Guards shall be responsible for emergency shut off of broken water lines, the heating system, electrical controls, fire

  • suppression alarm systems, fire extinguishers only in order to prevent damage.

Access Control System:

  • The guard will need to become familiar with the building access control system, make periodic checks of the alarm

  • monitoring application and silence false alarms

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years demonstratable experience
  • Must be licensed and in good standing as an Armed Security Guard in the state of Kansas
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a Background Investigation

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to manage time and tasks independently

  • Ability to complete all required government training, to include all applicable weapon and gear training

  • Ability to meet vision, hearing, and general physical fitness standards

  • Ability to pass initial and random drug screening

  • Ability to pass background investigation

Working Conditions/Working Environment/Physical Factors:

  • Position involves shift work to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Position may include on-call requirements for emergency situations
  • Work requires regular walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing
  • Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions
  • Position requires wearing equipment belt and gear for the full shift
