JOB SUMMARY:



The QUALITY ENGINEER is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the Quality function to assure compliance to company standards and customer specifications.





JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Maintains necessary records and initiates required actions to minimize the long range, overall quality costs of the organization in the interest of maximizing profit.
  • Coordinates in-process and final inspection, dimensions, appearance and proper packaging of parts to assure quality parts at a minimum cost.
  • Completes at the required intervals all audits including layered process audits.
  • Reviews scrap and repair work to pinpoint problems and recommend corrective action to minimize scrap thereby improving plant profit.
  • Responds to customer quality concerns and maintains the required customer-vendor relationship.
  • Coordinates visits of customer representatives to our plant. Must be prepared to show conformance to their requirements regarding dimensions, appearance, packaging and labeling.
  • Coordinates the training and use of computerized data collection system.
  • Conducts and evaluates capability studies on both present and new equipment and processes. Provides documentation for production samples.
  • Provides necessary surveillance over sample parts to ensure customer satisfaction at a minimum cost.
  • Suggests areas requiring process improvement.
  • Actively uses G-8D, FM TIPS, or other customer-required problem-solving tools.
  • Maintains familiarity with Quality Management System requirements and works to maintain IATF and all customer certifications.
  • This position is authorized to make quality calls on non-conforming product up to and including stopping production to protect the customer.
  • Serves as a team member when required and represents the Quality function (on teams such as APQP, Quality Systems audits, new business opportunities, etc.)
  • Serves as Quality representative on product launch teams.
  • Prepares PPAP, PSO, and other quality documentation for product launches.
  • Acts as a liaison to customer.
  • Maintains records of customer quality concerns and concern PPM level for both OE and Aftermarket accounts.
  • Conducts and provides direction on Gage R & R studies.
  • Actively engage with operations in Poke-Yoke implementation and verification activity on the production lines.
  • Performs other duties as required.







JOB REQUIREMENTS:



EDUCATION:



Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.



EXPERIENCE:



Minimum 5 years' experience in quality engineering/control preferred. Experience in a Tier 1 automotive supplier environment experience preferred. Gage R&R and calibration experience a plus. Experience with OEMs preferred. Knowledge of basic statistical tools preferred.



REQUIREMENTS:




  • Computer skills - Statgraphics, Minitab, or related applications
  • Basic understanding of statistics; capability calculation preferred.
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems (FMEAs, PPAPs, IATF, Ford Q1, DCX, GM, APQP, MSA, etc.)
