The Role

As an Electrical/Controls Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining, optimizing, and innovating our control systems within the plastics extrusion plant. You'll work hands-on with Rockwell, Siemens, and other niche control equipment to ensure seamless operations, focusing on temperature control, speed control, and other essential systems. This position demands a self-motivated individual with a passion for problem-solving, a drive to succeed, and the persistence to tackle complex challenges independently. Salary DOE: $95,000 - $110,000.


What You'll Do

  • Design, program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC-based control systems using Rockwell / Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms as well as other instrumentation.
  • Optimize temperature control, speed control, pressure monitoring, and other process variables to enhance manufacturing line performance and product quality.
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and upgrades on electrical and control systems, minimizing downtime in a 24/7 production environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including production, maintenance, and R&D) to implement automation improvements and integrate new technologies.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on system failures and develop preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Stay current with industry advancements through self-directed learning and apply innovative solutions to plant operations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and regulatory requirements.

Who You Are

  • Proven expertise with Rockwell/Allen Bradley/Siemens PLCs, HMIs, and related software.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in industrial controls engineering, preferably in plastics extrusion or a similar manufacturing setting.
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, including PID loops for temperature and speed control, VFDs, sensors, and SCADA systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn independently, with a track record of self-initiated projects or skill-development.
  • Passionate and driven mindset, with persistence in overcoming obstacles and delivering results under pressure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously or in a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or on-call support for production needs.
  • College Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or extensive experience in a related industrial setting.


Bonus

  • Experience in plastics extrusion processes, such as melt temperature control, extruder speed synchronization, or downstream equipment automation.
  • Familiarity with additional control technologies (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, etc.).
  • Certification in PLC programming or industrial automation
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools for process optimization.
