Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Student Health Services ( SHS) supports the University and Division by providing an array of preventative educational, physical and mental health services.
Inclusive and student centered in our approach, SHS adapts to the changing needs of the campus community through innovation, technology and excellence. Student Health and Counseling Services is responsible for providing primary health care to the student campus community in a professional, competent, caring, and confidential manner. SHS is committed to: providing reasonably comprehensive ambulatory medical services to all eligible students; promoting disease prevention through health education; providing non- classroom health education on issues that impact the student both physically and psychologically; provide counseling services with referrals to other psychological professionals when necessary; provide ancillary support services (i.e. laboratory, pharmacy, and administrative); providing advisory, collaborative, and educational assistance to other university departments; and ensuring staff competency to support and fulfill this mission. The goals are to maintain quality of care, client satisfaction, affordability, accessibility, and suitability for operational effectiveness.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the position is to deliver primary health care to students. Applies current nursing theory, principles of care and nursing procedures in performing the following functions appropriate to the age of the patient, maintains a safe and clean care environment, quality improvement, actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission and objectives FSU Student Health Services and performs other duties as requested.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for handling patient appointments and performing routine examinations to ensure patient health. Provides counseling with regards to health promotion and disease prevention. Teach, and evaluate students and other medical staff. Provides clinical knowledge to health-related queries from faculty and staff. Their duties include speaking with their patients about healthy lifestyle choices for their age, completing diagnostic tests to help diagnose and treat patients for injuries or illnesses and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to maintain updated medical records.

Minimum Education/Experience
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Registered Nurse must obtain a license to practice in North Carolina. This licensure requires a valid state Registered Nurse license and the completion of a national certification examination.
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina with two or more years of experience.

At the minimum, candidates must have graduated from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing or a master's in public health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience including two years of nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Duties

  • Supervisors in university health services centers direct the nursing staff for all shifts in identifying and assessing the physical and psychosocial needs and problems of students/patients and administering treatment according to physicians' orders.

Duties

  • Monitoring NC Immunization requirements, engaging in research activities, and providing training and education for various medical conditions under the supervision of a medical director. Patient care is provided in an outpatient clinical setting.
  • Interview the patient for pertinent medical history questions to determine the extent of the present illness or injury. Communicate test results to patients.
  • Obtains the necessary past medical, family, and psychosocial history to put the present illness/injury in a comprehensive context.
