Associate Vice President of Human Resources

Reports To: Vice President of Human Resources

Summary: The Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) Associate Vice President of Human Resources (AVP of HR) is a key leadership position responsible for assisting the Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) in the development and execution of Human Resources strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of DWIHN. The AVP of HR assists in providing leadership and guidance to the HR team, ensures compliance, fosters a positive work environment and drives HR initiatives that support DWIHN's mission, vision and values.

The AVP of HR will coordinate HR policies and programs, insuring that DWIHN is in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. In addition, the AVP of HR position works closely with the VP of HR in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies, programs and functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and implements HR strategies aligned with DWIHN's goals and values
  • Participates in strategic planning and decision-making as a member of the HR leadership team
  • Anticipates and plans for long-term human resource needs in a changing healthcare environment

Talent Acquisition and Management:

  • Oversee the recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring consistent and positive candidate experiences
  • Develop and implement effective employee retention strategies
  • Manages performance management programs, including performance appraisals and improvement plans
  • Develop strategies to attract and retain qualified clinical staff (e.g., therapists, counselors, psychologists)

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to behavioral healthcare, such as HIPAA

HR Team Leadership:

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to the HR team
  • Manage the HR budget and ensure efficient use of resources
  • Evaluate HR team performance and provide feedback
  • The AVP of HR oversees the talent management, EEO Compliance, employee wellness and engagement functions of the Network and is responsible for the supervision of the HR team working in those areas

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field is required (a Master's degree is preferred)
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role
  • Experience in behavioral healthcare is highly preferred
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is highly desirable

REQUIRED LICENSE(S).

A valid State of Michigan Driver's License with a safe and acceptable driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is usually performed in an office setting but may require the employee to drive to different sites throughout Wayne County and the State of Michigan.
