Seasonal Kennel Care Worker

Hourly Rate: $16

This position is an on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hour appointment based in Champaign, Illinois for Fall of 2025.

Responsible for the husbandry
and care of all program animals including dogs, cats, rodents, and lab
facilities. Must follow disease control protocols. Also responsible for any medical treatments for
those animals and reporting any problems or concerns immediately to the
veterinarian.

Working Relationships:

  • Works closely with Veterinarian, Veterinary Technicians and
    other staff.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Feed
    and medicate all animals twice daily following individual instructions.
  • Perform
    twice daily cleaning of runs, cages and cat community, following proper
    disease control protocol to ensure an aseptic environment.
  • Keep
    DVM and CVT informed of health or animal behavior concerns.
  • Follow
    specific medical care instructions and record any medical care/treatments
  • Move
    cages to clean behind, sweep and mop all floors, including hallway and L
    160 lab
  • Clean,
    fold, and stock kennel laundry as needed.
  • Stock
    all food and kennel/cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Lift
    and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Bend,
    kneel, and twist repeatedly
  • Work
    under stressful conditions and work efficiently and effectively under
    those conditions
  • Work
    independently and as part of team
  • Other
    duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidate should be a highly
    motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude. Previous
    experience working with animals is preferred.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
