Intern - Portfolio Valuation & Complex Securities

Stout's Portfolio Valuation and Complex Securities team provides analysis and valuation related to complex securities and other financial instruments for financial reporting, tax and regulatory compliance, risk management and hedging assessments, transaction support and corporate strategy.

We use reliable valuation methodologies coupled with sophisticated techniques from quantitative finance to assist clients in understanding and valuing financial derivatives and other complex securities. We work on a wide variety of projects, giving team members the opportunity to gain exposure to a broad range of securities and situations. In addition, we provide the opportunity to everyone on the team to be able to have client facing meetings, where they get to explain the approach used and the key value drivers to our clients.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and apply complex valuation models to value a variety of financial instruments using option pricing theory, interest rate and credit models, Monte Carlo simulation, binomial trees, contingent claims analysis, and other financial engineering techniques;
  • Perform independent analyses and interpret and analyze data sets to generate strategic insights and recommendations for senior leadership and clients;
  • Create comprehensive reports and supporting analyses that synthesize complex financial analyses delivering clear, concise and impactful findings and recommendations to clients, demonstrating advanced analytical and communication skills;
  • Independently manage multiple complex projects, exercising discretion in prioritizing tasks and effectively communicating technical insights and recommendations to colleagues and clients in engagements;
  • Cultivate and sustain strategic professional relationships with colleagues and clients, proactively identifying client's needs, tailoring solutions, and delivering precise, actionable request for information to drive successful outcomes; and
  • Assume full ownership of complex projects, exercising independent judgment while collaborating strategically with colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a BA/BS/MS degree in Financial Engineering, Computational Finance, Mathematical Finance, Finance, Business Analytics, or related discipline (required).
  • Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 required; 3.5 or higher preferred.
  • Must be classified as Junior or higher as of Fall 2025.
  • Demonstrated understanding of valuation methodologies used in financial markets preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, R, VBA).
  • Relevant internship and/or extracurricular related experiences.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, technical, and written skills with ability to interpret complex financial data and synthesize findings into clear and actionable insight.
  • Superior Communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to present complex information and build strong relationships with colleagues and clients.

  • Leverage specialized expertise in strong derivative and financial modeling skills to independently design and implement valuation and financial models for financial assets, agreements, or an operational and financial business plans, utilizing techniques such as Monte Carlo simulation, lattice techniques, and finite difference methods.
  • Build and demonstrate strong quantitative and problem-solving skills.
  • Leverage tools such as Bloomberg analytics and S&P CapIQ preferred.
  • Excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment exercising discretion in managing multiple complex projects with meticulous attention to detail and strong organization skills.
  • Excel in multi-tasking, planning and organization skills, along with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate a proactive commitment to deepening expertise in financial markets and investments, driving innovative solutions for clients.
  • Communicate sophisticated technical, financial, and modeling concepts with clarity and precision, tailoring insights to meet the needs of clients and colleagues in deadline driven settings.
