Description
Social Worker Reports to: Benefits Manager Supervises: N/A Summary Statement: The Social Worker supports employees in achieving greater independence and well-being by providing advocacy, counseling, and guidance on workplace and government benefits, while connecting them to internal programs and community resources. This role addresses diverse personal and professional challenges through individualized support and collaboration with internal teams and external partners. Essential Job Functions
- Guide and advocate for employees navigating SSI, SSDI, NC Medicaid, and other state/federal benefits; assist with documentation, applications, and appeals.
- Support employees with Social Security questionnaires, benefit issue resolution, and agency advocacy; prepare required documentation for federal, state, and public assistance programs.
- Assist employees with access to low-income resources, including food assistance, emergency financial aid, and utility support programs.
- Advise employees on workplace benefits and protections, including FMLA, ADA, ACA, and other applicable regulations.
- Complete annual Individual Employee Evaluations (IEEs) and assist with associated administrative processes.
- Assist employees with housing needs, including relocation, eviction prevention, and connecting with community housing resources.
- Connect employees to community resources, including healthcare providers, financial counselors, legal advisors, VITA tax preparation program, and support groups.
- Support employees with day-to-day challenges, such as paying bills, reading mail, and navigating financial or legal concerns.
- Conduct needs assessments and develop individualized support plans to help employees overcome challenges and achieve independence.
- Collaborate with team members and external agencies to provide holistic support.
- Maintain confidential case files to track employee support and outcomes.

Education
- A bachelor's degree in social work, human services, counseling, or a related field is required
- At least 2 years of experience in social work, case management, or employee assistance, preferably in a nonprofit or human services setting, is required.
- Knowledge of state and federal benefit programs (SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, FMLA, ADA) and community resources for housing, healthcare, and financial support are required.
- Experience working with individuals who are blind, low vision, or have disabilities is preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
