MPS is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to support the research portfolio of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences' (USU) Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP), which is based in Bethesda, MD. The Research Assistant will assist with activities in the USU Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS). As an integral part of the School of Medicine, MPS is committed to excellence in psychological research during periods of both peace and war. Research programs include health disparities, suicide prevention, obesity, eating disorders, stigma, psychotherapy research, substance abuse, and risky behaviors among other topics related to clinical and medical psychology as well as military psychology.

This position will assist half-time (50% effort) with activities related to a study on social media use interventions with adolescents led by Principal Investigator Dr. Timothy Regan at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences' (USU) Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) Department, which is based in Bethesda, MD. This position will also assist half-time (50% effort) with grant and study activities across MPS as needed.

The successful candidate will work closely to assist Dr. Regan with an online randomized controlled trial examining social media use interventions for military-connected adolescents. The successful candidate will also work closely with other MPS faculty members in their grant and study activities. The position requires an individual who is highly responsible and has excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, particularly with children and families.

The Research Assistant position offers several unique opportunities. The position is ideal for post-baccalaureates interested in gaining experience prior to graduate or medical school given that the incumbent will work closely with established researchers. Commensurate with demonstrated abilities, opportunity to publish manuscripts and gain clinical experience may be available.

Responsibilities



  • Supports the planning and implementation of military-relevant mental health research studies while maintaining compliance with established standard operating procedures under supervision. Reviews tasks lists and ensures timely completion of project tasks. Assistance with screening, gaining parental consent and adolescent assent with study subjects, and data collection with consenting study subjects and/or data collection.
  • Performs data entry for research projects; assists with survey development and maintaining study surveys in various data collection platforms; establishes and maintains databases; maintains clear and accurate project records, and data files; and assists with the development of progress reports for studies as assigned in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Performs administrative duties such as scheduling study appointments; maintaining participant tracking; performing scientific literature searches, identification, and retrieval; file management; and assisting in the preparation of grants, papers, and abstracts. Reports to all scientific collaborators as required.
  • Assists with the development and refinement of training materials and protocol study materials for ongoing studies.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor(s). This may include attendance of and participation in required trainings for the role.


Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years' experience required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, with attention to independent problem-solving when appropriate.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, and analytical skills.
  • Interest in working in military mental health research, including research with military-connected adolescents.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with a human use Institutional Review Board (IRB) and regulatory compliance in the research space preferred
  • Background in psychology, public health, medicine, or another health-related field.
  • Prior research experience is strongly preferred. High technological literacy (smartphones, social media, etc.) is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check


Physical Capabilities



  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in an office environment. This is a hybrid position, with 50% effort taking place on site at USU and 50% effort at HJF offices. Telework is a possibility for some portion of the off-campus hours.


Compensation



  • The hourly pay range for this position is $18.25-$25.48. hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
