POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Plumbing Designer - Level IV plays a key role in the successful execution of projects, focusing primarily on the production of Revit and AutoCAD drawings. This person is responsible for designing complete building systems, producing quality construction documents and coordinating design work with other engineering disciplines.

The Plumbing Designer - Level IV is a highly advanced role focused on completing contract plans for small and large plumbing projects. This position requires demonstrated excellence in sophisticated layouts, measuring, technical knowledge of systems and codes, and the ability to work with minimum supervision on complex projects. The Plumbing Designer - Level IV is expected to be a subject matter expert in their chosen specialty.

The Plumbing Designer - Level IV will also play a key role in developing and delivering training programs for junior staff, contributing to the overall growth and expertise of the engineering team.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrate expertise in plumbing design.
  • Layout and design complete systems of assigned projects, including plumbing, hydronic and HVAC.
  • Create comprehensive project drawings, including General Arrangements, PIDs, 3D models, piping, and Isometrics.
  • Perform accurate design calculations and measurements.
  • Independently perform all design tasks not requiring engineering professional judgment.
  • Plan and execute field work, gathering accurate information and preparing thoroughly for job site visits.
  • Conducts construction observations and prepares punch lists as assigned.
  • Effectively estimate hours and scope of work, thereby contributing to the creation of budgets and project schedules.
  • Lead entire projects, demonstrating project management skills from inception to completion.
  • Provide leadership, guiding the efforts and development of other designers, including on-the-job training.
  • Train and mentor other designers and junior staff.
  • Coordinate work with stakeholders, providing technical support and work direction while managing client relationships.
  • Schedule and lead design meetings, drawing reviews, and act as a KFI representative at Project Meetings.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of construction law to project execution.
  • Serves as a CAD, Revit, and design resource to others and may provide training when assigned.
  • Contribute to the development of company-wide design standards and best practices.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to work, continuously improving processes and technical skills.
  • Take ownership of tasks, bringing them to completion while seeking assistance when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • AAS Degree in Design/Drafting or equivalent working experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of plumbing design experience for one or more of the following:
    • Hospitals and other healthcare facilities (strong preference)
    • Maintenance facilities
    • Commercial office buildings
    • K-12 schools
  • Expertise in both Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.
  • Demonstrated excellence in sophisticated layouts, measuring, technical knowledge of systems and codes.
  • Ability to perform all design tasks not requiring engineering professional judgment independently.
  • Ability to complete contracts for small to large projects.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work independently on complex projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including the capacity to guide and develop junior team members.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, maintain accurate records, and manage information effectively.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with others and represent the company professionally.
  • Highly motivated professional with a "can-do" attitude, team-oriented approach, and strong work ethic.
  • Travel: May include up to10% domestic travel.

Preferred

  • AutoCAD 3D experience.
  • Field/construction experience is desirable.
  • Multiple specializations within mechanical design disciplines.
  • Experience with large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects.

Working Conditions

  • Physically fit for a combination of desk work and field visits.
  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.
