The Life Sciences Sales Originator (SO)is to drive client acquisition and growth by positioning and delivering SVB's value proposition to clients and prospects. The SO will directly manage and develop key channel and VC partnerships while being a highly visible ambassador for Healthcare in the market(s) being covered. The SO works closely with Relationship Managers to collectively convert prospects into clients, as well as supporting Portfolio Managers by delivering market insights and Value Beyond Banking to their clients and collaboration to provide a best-in-class client experience.

The SO position is designed to primarily deal directly with founders and funders. and future founders. While this role has a significant amount of in-market activity, there also exists administrative and analytical activities to help guide the actions and strategies of the overall Startup Banking Business Development business, particularly with respect to optimizing channel partner relationships and overall market share. An adept risk manager in the First Line of Defense (FLOD), this role ensures controls are in place, managed and addressed and elevates and mitigates any emerging risks within their or across the business unit.


Responsibilities

Strategic Client Relationships and Business Development

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive strategies to acquire, retain, and grow high-potential client relationships, resulting in consistent revenue growth for the bank.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the firm's most important prospective and existing clients, identifying, and originating a substantial volume of deals while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement sophisticated cross-selling strategies aligned with both client needs and bank objectives.
  • Lead effective and optimal sales processes to leverage all relationships and influence outcomes.
  • Represent the bank as a thought leader at major investor conferences and industry events, enhancing the institution's market presence and reputation.
  • Spearhead high-impact, value-added client events, showcasing the bank's expertise and fostering deeper client relationships.

Sales Analysis and Optimization

  • Drive the optimization of sales activities and reporting in CRM systems, ensuring data integrity, compliance with regulatory requirements, and generation of actionable insights.
  • Lead root cause analysis of deal outcomes and client relationships, implementing data-driven strategies to continuously improve sales performance and risk management.
  • Collaborate with analytics and risk management teams to refine client segmentation, targeting strategies, and risk assessment models.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of long-term business development strategies, ensuring alignment with the bank's overall objectives and risk appetite.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Mentor and develop a team of individual contributors and leaders on engagements, tactics, and sales strategies.
  • Make decisions regarding team performance management, goal setting, and professional development.
  • Set the example as a leader in all client and prospect interactions as well as internal stake holder interactions and collaborations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience in High level leadership experience in banking, financial services, or related field OR High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in High level leadership experience in banking, financial services, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the life science/healthcare and strong understanding of business trends in the ecosystem
  • Master's degree or MBA

The base pay for this position is generally between $233,700-$404,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
