A Brief Overview The Creative Arts Therapist functions as a member of the healthcare team and practices at the beginner level. The Creative Arts Therapist is specifically trained as an Art, Music, or Dance/Movement Therapist for the clinical use of creative arts or expressive arts therapy interventions with patients of all ages to promote emotional, social, and physical health and to assist patients/families in their coping with illness, injury, disability, and hospital/healthcare experiences.

This is a 36-hour/week full-time Art Therapist position that will support patients across units some with a focus on behavioral health needs, and some with a focus on medical and intensive care needs.

What you will do

  • Assesses, prioritizes, individualizes, and evaluates plan of care based on patient/family developmental, emotional, and coping needs.
  • Provides services to patients or family members in group or individual therapy sessions, using developmentally appropriate art/music/movement experiences to assess and meet psychosocial or physical needs as it relates to their illness and/or medical treatment.
  • Demonstrates, explains and/or provides stress reduction techniques to facilitate adaptive coping.
  • Assists patients and family members in coping with the stresses associated with illness and/or the health care experience through developing therapeutic, supportive relationships which foster a sense of empowerment and self-esteem.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to integrate goals and plans to promote optimal patient care that is family-centered, developmentally appropriate, psychosocially sound, and in alignment with CHOP's ICARE values.
  • Provides training, supervision, and feedback to creative arts therapy practicum students and volunteers.
  • Demonstrates compliance with patient care documentation and Hospital policies.
  • Participates in tasks, initiatives, and/or committees that support departmental operations and/or enhances one's professional development.
  • Serves as a financial steward by implementing cost effective programming, adhering to budget constraints, and supporting efforts to raise funds through donor contributions.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Art Therapy Board Certified (AT-BC) - Art Therapy Credentials Board - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) - The Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Board Certified Dance Movement Therapist (BC-DMT) - American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) - upon hire - Preferred

Education

  • Master's Degree Creative Arts Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance Movement Therapy, or Counseling and Art Therapy Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of infant, child, and adolescent growth and development.
  • Experience working with infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete duties in a timely and organized manner.
  • Work collaboratively and in a positive manner with others.
  • Perform work according to CHOP policies and procedures, professional standards of care, and applicable laws.
  • Ability to set goals, prioritize, and achieve results in accordance with the highest standards.
  • Provides care with sensitivity and respect.
  • Advances care through development of new ideas and technology.
  • Promotes teamwork to achieve CHOP's mission.

$56,890.00 - $71,110.00 Annually

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
