Job Summary:

Join Northwestern's prestigious Kellogg School of Management as our Director of Enterprise Communications, where you'll shape the narrative of one of the world's leading business schools. In this strategic leadership role, you'll lead Kellogg Magazine and oversee our primary content hub, News + Stories, while elevating Kellogg's reputation through compelling storytelling, innovative content strategy, and integrated marketing communications that reach our global network of 72,000+ alumni and prospective students worldwide.

Please note: Due to the nature of the field, and to support events on-site during evenings and weekends, this role may experience work outside the standard business hours. This role may also involve limited travel.

Specific Responsibilities:

Editor-in-Chief, Kellogg Magazine:

  • Lead editorial strategy and production of our flagship bi-annual alumni magazine (digital and print)
  • Develop comprehensive editorial calendars in partnership with the Alumni Relations and Development team and other colleagues
  • Manage end-to-end magazine production, including budget oversight, writer assignments, and publication timelines
  • Craft compelling stories showcasing school initiatives, alumni achievements, faculty research, and donor spotlights

Content Strategy, News + Stories Platform:

  • Oversee News + Stories, Kellogg's primary storytelling blog and digital content hub
  • Partner with Assistant Director, Communications and Content Development to develop and execute content strategy
  • Research, write, and edit long-form articles, profiles, and strategic communications announcements
  • Analyze performance metrics to optimize content strategy and reach
  • Pilot innovative content initiatives to engage prospective students and advance institutional goals

Editor - Alumni Newsletters

  • Partner with Director, Alumni Relations and Development Communications to extend reach of Kellogg Magazine and News + Stories to alumni audiences
  • Develop specialized newsletters for topics like Healthcare at Kellogg, and targeting specific tiers of donors

Strategic Communications & Collaboration:

  • Cross-functional Partnership: Collaborate with Marketing, Brand, Creative, Digital, and Communications teams to maximize content efficiency and amplification, often in partnership with Alumni Relations and Development Communications
  • Strategic Alignment: Ensure all content supports Kellogg's mission and institutional objectives
  • Performance Optimization: Use data analytics to measure impact and refine communication strategies

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Develop and retain high-performing team members
  • Embed Kellogg's mission, leadership philosophy, and performance-driven culture
  • Mentor team members and foster professional growth

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field; Master's preferred
  • Experience: 8+ years in communications, content strategy, or editorial leadership roles
  • Editorial Expertise: Proven track record managing publications, digital content platforms, or similar editorial responsibilities
  • Digital Proficiency: Experience with content management systems, analytics platforms, and social media strategy
  • Higher Education Experience: Background in academic or educational communications
  • Writing Excellence: Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities across multiple formats and audiences
  • In-depth understanding and sophisticated grasp of the internal, external, earned and owned communications landscape, and demonstrated ability to drive measurable outcomes.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Strategic Thinking: Experience developing and executing integrated communications strategies
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and budget
  • Stakeholder Management: Experience collaborating with diverse internal and external partners. Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of academic, administrative and corporate management.
  • Leadership Experience: Track record of successfully managing and developing teams
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to self-start.

Target hiring range for this position will be $125,000 - $135,500 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
