Job Overview & Essential Functions

Murphy-Hoffman Company, LLC is North America's largest Kenworth truck dealership group and leasing group. As MHC continues to grow, we have an opening for a Lot Porter. The role of the Lot Porter is detailing new trucks to showroom quality and safely picking up and delivering customer trucks. The ideal candidate will also maintain the cleanliness of the dealership lot and perform limited routine building maintenance as needed, ensuring a professional environment. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and adherence to safety and DOT regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Truck Detailing (Primary Focus):

  • Clean and detail new trucks to meet dealership and customer standards, including exterior washing, plastic removal, and light interior detailing.
  • Perform pre-delivery inspections (PDI) to verify trucks are in pristine condition, checking for damage, defects, or missing components.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and presentation for all vehicles on the lot.
  • Ensure detailing tools and supplies are properly maintained and restocked.

2. Customer Truck Pickup and Delivery (Primary Focus):

  • Safely transport customer trucks to and from designated locations, including customer sites, service centers, or other dealerships, using a valid CDL.
  • Ensure timely and professional delivery of trucks, providing excellent customer service during interactions.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including delivery paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Inspect trucks during pickup and delivery to ensure they meet quality and safety standards, reporting any issues to management.

3. Additional Lot Duties:

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining the vehicle lot, ensuring trucks are arranged for optimal display and accessibility.
  • Move trucks within the lot or to off-site locations as needed, adhering to all traffic and safety regulations.
  • Support minor maintenance tasks, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, or battery functionality, as part of truck preparation.

4. General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the dealership lot by removing debris, trash, snow, or other obstacles to ensure a professional and welcoming environment.
  • Perform limited janitorial duties as assigned, such as cleaning showroom spaces, common areas, or work areas.
  • Collaborate with sales and service teams to ensure seamless operations and customer satisfaction.
  • Adhere to all company policies, safety protocols, and DOT regulations.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with customers and team members.

This position has been designated as a safety-sensitive position. Qualifications
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Class A or B is required, with a clean driving record.
  • Experience: Prior experience in vehicle detailing, truck delivery, or facilities maintenance work preferred; familiarity with truck preparation is a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality detailing and cleaning work.
    • Strong time management and ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
    • Safe driving skills and familiarity with operating manual and automatic transmission trucks.
    • Professional communication and customer service skills.
  • Certifications: DOT medical card required; certifications in vehicle detailing are a plus.
  • Availability: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings, as needed.
