Overview

The Director of Epic Beaker and Ancillary Clinical Systems is a corporate leadership position responsible for the oversight, planning, implementation and ongoing optimization of Epic Beaker and ancillary clinical systems that support Beaker. This role requires a strong understanding of both the technical aspects of Epic Beaker and the clinical workflows within a laboratory setting. The Director will lead a team of Beaker analysts and maintain a top-tier team through effective retention and recruitment strategies. The Director will oversee daily operations of the teams and manage project responsibilities. They will propose and manage capital and operating budgets and project portfolios related to these applications. The role requires close collaboration within a matrixed environment to ensure the maintenance and upgrade of information systems.

Additionally, the Director must stay informed of current and emerging trends in healthcare technology, seeking out information on best practices, application solutions, and services, with the aim of incorporating innovation in practical and cost-effective methods. As an influential leader with superior interpersonal and communication abilities, comprehensive business and technology knowledge, the role demands significant collaboration with clinical teams throughout the health system. The ideal candidate will be a customer-focused servant leader and a first-class problem solver. This role works closely with other leaders within Transformation Services, Laboratory Services, and the CMIO for Informatics and other operational leaders at Carle.


Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Epic Certification - EPIC, Beaker

Education:

  • Experience In Lieu of Education:
    • Experience in lab or IT leadership - 5 years
    • Experience in clinical information system support - 3 years
  • Bachelor's Degree: Biology
  • Bachelor's Degree: Medical Technology
  • Bachelor's Degree: Chemistry

Work Experience:

  • Related Field
  • Leadership - 5 years
  • Healthcare - 5 years

Other Knowledge and Skills

  • Leading an Epic project team considered applicable.
  • Demonstrated, relevant experience leading large and complex projects and servant leadership.
  • Demonstrated high customer service and service recovery skills.
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated success working in a matrixed work environment.
  • Previous LIS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight, planning, consultation, coordination and optimization of the Epic Beaker application and ancillary applications that support Beaker.
  • Manages operations of department
  • Ensures standards of quality and service are provided in accordance with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Develops, analyzes, and manages capital and operating budget within agreed upon standards
  • Assumes responsibility for personnel related duties that include interviewing, disciplinary actions, payroll reporting, scheduling paid leave, and enforcing requires rules and regulations.
  • Monitors employee performance and ensures timely communications for the purpose of goal setting, performance evaluations, wages increase and continued personal actions.
  • Applies strong knowledge of healthcare operations, proven communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and management skills to guide optimization that promote patient safety and create workflow efficiencies for end users across Carle Health.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for any issues related to requests across the enterprise, researching and resolving day-to-day issues related to Epic or other Clinical Ancillary System applications and processes.
  • Manage project portfolio.
  • Direct implementation of new ancillary applications and/or integrations for Carle or community partners.
  • Work closely with other Epic leaders to drive performance improvement and innovation.
  • Foster and support team member professional development.
  • Strive to develop and maintain highly engage team.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $62.09per hour - $106.79per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
