The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Clinical Technician performs a variety of basic patient care activities and related procedures in caring for the needs of the patients. He/She assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.

Qualification

Required:

        • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
        • One (1) year of Nurse Aide/Assistant experience or satisfactory completion of an Aide training program.
        • One (1) year experience as a phlebotomist or EKG Technician with health care background preferred.
        • Current enrollment in health care training program preferred.
        • BLS Certification
        • Satisfactory (80%) score on Comprehensive Screening Examination.
          Excellent verbal and written skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Checks to ensure supplies are available.
  • Reviews and follows patient's care plan to ascertain patient goals.
  • Seeks direction when any aspect of assignment is new and/or unfamiliar.
  • Reports off to the nurse(s) before leaving the unit.
  • Performs order entry and patient data entry.
  • Observes and reports changes in the physical, mental, emotional, behavioral and social status to the Registered Nurse.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, B/P, weight, height, head circumference accurately. Reports findings outside of normal range to RN.
  • Correctly identifies patient by name for any direct care procedures and treatments.
  • Assists patients in moving on/off exam table and transports via stretcher or wheelchair.
  • Assists patients in recreational/diversional activities during hospital stay; assists in activities to relieve pain.
  • Answers calls from patients as necessary.
  • Collects necessary specimens (i.e., urine, stool and sputum) as required using appropriate collection technique and specimen labeling.
  • Tests urine specimens with dipstick for sugar, protein and ketones
  • Ensures laboratory specimens are delivered to the lab within timeframe as necessary.
  • Performs laboratory procedures as noted: EKG's, venipuncture, capillary sampling, glucose monitoring and other laboratory procedures as directed by the RN.
  • Assists patients to and from the bathroom.
  • Assists with preparing the patient for a physical examination.
  • Cooperates with the unit's budget control through economical use of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, neat and safe environment.
  • Provides communication support including telephone skills, relaying messages and nursing station organization.
  • Assists with the care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Performs aseptic handwashing techniques.
  • Schedules exams for patients.
  • Performs a wide variety of clerical duties to include memo's filing, and updating charts, faxing and duplicating.
