POSITION: Director of Advanced Practice Providers Cardiac Surgery

DEPARTMENT: Northern Department of Cardiac Surgery

REPORTS TO: Director, Northern Department CTICU Intensivists, Chairman, Northern department Cardiac Surgery, Vice President Heart Vascular Service Line

Job Overview:

The Director of Advance Practice Providers APPs for cardiac surgery role involves leading and managing a team of Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, ensuring clinical excellence, operational efficiency and professional development and potentially some clinical duties,

Qualification:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of clinical experience as an APP in Cardiac Surgery
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner or Certified Physician Assistant in the state of New Jersey
  • Masters/Doctorate in Nursing and or Business Administration from an accredited program
  • ACLS/BLS/DEA/CDS certification
  • Must have cardiac and/or critical care experience including leadership experience
  • Strong leadership & excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records EMR and other relevant software
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills

Scheduling Requirement:

  • 40 Hours per week
  • Weekend possible as needed

Essential Functions:

Clinical

  • Conducts thorough patient assessments, including medical history and physical examinations and review of diagnostic test results
  • Develops and implements comprehensive care plans for patients undergoing invasive and non-invasive heart and vascular procedures
  • Postoperative care and management of cardiac surgery patients in the ICU and on the surgical floor
  • Rounding on patients and coordinating care with the surgical team
  • Provides pre and post procedure care management for invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular patients
  • Cardiovascular education and support to patients and their families
  • Facilitates discharges for Heart and Vascular service line patients
  • Provides education to staff and community regarding cardiac conditions and procedures
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes
  • Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including cardiologists, NP s, PA s, nurses and social workers

Administrative

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all APPs within Northern Department, Cardiac Surgery
  • Review APP monthly schedules at all sites and ensure adequate coverage
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of all APPs, providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and support
  • Lead operation budget expenses and validate monthly usage in coordination with VP
  • Develop and implement APP-specific policies, procedures, and protocols in alignment with hospital guidelines, regulatory standards, and best practices
  • Conduct regular team meetings and communicate effectively with APPs, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
  • Serve as a liaison between the APP team, medical staff, nursing leadership, and hospital administration
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that promotes teamwork, professional growth, and patient-centered care
  • Develop and implement orientation and onboarding programs for new APPs
  • Identify and provide opportunities for continuing education and professional development for all APPs, including training, workshops, and certifications
  • Oversee the development and implementation of evidence-based clinical protocols and guidelines for APP practice
