Overall Responsibilities: The Employment Services Specialist provides placement and training services to program consumers and has the responsibility for the development of relationships with employers to provide vocational opportunities for individuals who are receiving services in the program. The Employment Services Specialist is responsible for the assessment and evaluation of individuals' needs for Vocational Placement services through the use of case history, interviews, orientation and observation; and the provision of instruction and/or referral services to help individuals achieve personal, social, educational, and vocational success.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in education or rehabilitation required
- At least one year of work experience in the human service field.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to travel and work independently outside of the office up to 60% of the time.

- Ability to problem solve and utilize necessary resources.
- Self-motivated; requires minimal supervision.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities and accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of principles, techniques, equipment, and low vision aids used in placement services.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations that are applicable.
- Ability to accurately maintain case management files, case reporting, and billing.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, to meet the needs of the organization and its customers; effective listening skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Maintain a CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Valid Indiana Driver's License and a verifiable safe driving record.
- Ability to successfully obtain certification through an Employment Training Specialist program.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interview Employment Services participants to determine interests, qualifications, and employment eligibility; assist them in developing educational and vocational objectives; and work with them to overcome personal and social challenges by providing guidance or referral to available community resources.
- Plan, implement, and/or refer clients for needed rehabilitation services using knowledge of programs, funding sources, community resources, and government regulations.
- Determine specific training needs of each client as related to identified areas of potential employment placements.
- Teach program participants vocational readiness skills, which include job search techniques, interview skills, and resume writing.
- Review jobs and match participants with job requirements, utilizing manual or computerized file search.
- Meet with employers to determine personnel needs, promote the use of the placement service and arrange job interviews for program participants, as appropriate.
- Transport and accompany clients to appointments as needed.
- Monitor progress of placed individuals; continue client support and record findings 30, 60, and 90 days at minimum after employment is achieved.
- Maintain case files and write reports; prepare ongoing client case reports and collect client demographics, which are retained in secure files.
- Report externship/internship, assessment, and placement service activity monthly to the manager.
- Complete billing for services is provided within an appropriate timeframe.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
