Job Family Description

Engineering roles perform engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments. They may design and scale up manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment and tests manufactured products to maintain quality. They may plan, design, and estimate time and cost and oversees construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, systems, and components. They analyze and develop solutions to engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment and systems or the causes of component failures. They develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and provide advice on issues within the engineering field.

Discipline Description

Civil/Structural/Architect (C/S/A) Engineers provide engineering support for civil and structural installations and systems (e.g., roads, bridges, dams, building structures, stacks etc.) in an operating nuclear materials processing plant or as part of the broader site infrastructure. They identify system concepts and determine system functional and technical requirements, develop, and analyze equipment performance, monitor system performance, troubleshoot, and resolve problems and ensure operation within technical, regulatory and safety basis requirements. They propose and develop process/system improvements including equipment upgrades, and plant modifications.

Geotechnical engineers ensure the safety and sturdiness of foundations for streets, buildings, and other structures and systems. They focus on how these manmade objects interact with the earth, including soil and rock.

Structural engineers design and assess major projects, such as buildings, bridges, and dams, to ensure their strength and durability. They provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

SRNS is seeking to hire an Experienced Civil Site Lead Engineering into our Civil/Structural/Architectural (C/S/A) Engineering group. This position will provide leadership and guidance to the Civil Site Engineering group.

Responsibilities include:
* Ensuring the quality and technical adequacy of the design deliverables. Approving design deliverables in accordance with Site procedures
* Establishing priorities for sub-tasks to meet commitments as agreed upon with the Project Engineer.
* Establishing day-to-day work group priorities
* Coordinating Technical oversight and lessons learned for broad scopes of work.
* Reviewing design input for adequacy.
* Ensuring the technical approach is appropriate, adequate and cost effective.
* Determining the methods and practices to be used in the design, and consulting with the Manager Discipline Engineering, as necessary, for the application of discipline guides and standards
* Ensuring deliverables meet work scope, schedules and estimates, and monitoring progress.
* Establishing manpower requirements.
* Assigning Responsible Engineers to design tasks and providing day-to-day direction.
* Providing technical and administrative direction to the work group.
* Conducting on-the-job- training and personnel development through rotation of work assignments, delegation of responsibilities.
* Assuring that activities are conducted in compliance site procedures, DOE Orders, and applicable codes and standards
The successful candidate must have Civil Engineering design experience and the ability to prepare CSI Specifications, hydrologic storm runoff calculations, hydraulic calculations, site drainage and runoff detention calculations, earthwork quantities, design site paving, grading, and erosion and sediment control, and route and design underground utilities, and prepare design drawings. Demonstrate working knowledge of applicable National Codes and Standards and pertinent South Carolina Environmental Regulations.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or architecture plus at least ten years of experience (YOE), OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least eight years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE)
* BS Degree in Civil Engineering or BS Degree in Engineering with emphasis on Civil Engineering courses, and a current registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering.
* Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
