Overview

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking an Application Engineer II.

This role involves providing technical support to clients, testing applications, maintaining hardware, and responding to customer requests. The Application Engineer will also analyze complex system requirements, design software tools and subsystems, and manage software development and support processes. Manage software development and support using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, other accepted design techniques and Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools. Estimate software development costs and schedule. Review existing programs and assist in making refinements, reducing operating time, and improving current techniques.



Responsibilities

    As an IT Application Engineer II, you will play a crucial role in enhancing software functionality by improving software architecture and supporting existing applications.
  • Your responsibilities will include providing technical support to users, testing applications, maintaining hardware, and responding to customer requests.
  • You will also analyze complex system requirements, design software tools and subsystems, and manage software development and support processes. Additionally, you will review existing programs to identify refinements that reduce operating time and improve current techniques.
  • Providing interactive troubleshooting assistance to users facing issues in a complex computing hardware and software environment.
  • Monitoring user issue tickets until they are resolved by other support teams and documenting solutions in the knowledge base.
  • Collaborating with application and system support teams to identify advanced solutions for user challenges.
  • Enhancing user support applications (e.g., issue tracking tools) through software design and development to improve performance and add new functionalities.
  • Maintaining commercial tools and managing OneStop's customizations, including upgrading to the latest software versions and resolving any scripting errors.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 1 year of experience
  • In lieu of degree, an additional 6 years of relevant experience, totaling 7 years experience is acceptable.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required per contract
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q security clearance
  • Work is performed on-site and therefore candidate must live in the Albuquerque area.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in an IT user support role with a strong dedication to customer service.
  • Proficiency in programming an object-oriented language

Desired:

  • Familiarity with engineering and high-performance computing environments, including programming models and engineering applications.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, Groovy, and bash scripting.
  • Experience in systems administration for Linux servers.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools, chat platforms, or web technologies.
  • Experience with Knowledge-Centered Service (KCS) methodologies.
  • Familiarity with tools such as GitLab, Jira, or Mattermost.
  • Understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) principles.
