Position Summary

The Space & Assortment Analyst plays a key role in analyzing space utilization, assortment efficiency, and product performance across floor plans and planograms. This role delivers insights at both the store and enterprise level, helping to guide smarter decisions that maximize sales and profitability. Working with cross-functional teams, the analyst shapes and communicates strategies that align with financial, store, and product goals. By turning data into clear, actionable insights-covering sales, margins, and assortment-the analyst supports resets, remodels, and process improvements. Partnering closely with Category Management, Space Planning, Macro Floor Planning, and other stakeholders, this role ensures a collaborative, data-driven approach to improving overall business performance.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and report on space utilization, floor plans, planograms, and product performance to optimize assortment/space productivity and sales.
  • Monitor key metrics such as sales/margin/units per linear foot, SKU productivity, GMROI, and reset performance.
  • Conduct pre-/post-reset and assortment analyses to identify opportunities, underperforming SKUs, and provide insights.
  • Prepare dashboards, category reports, and ad hoc analyses; maintain reporting platforms (e.g., Google Looker) to support resets, remodels, and strategic projects.
  • Ensure data accuracy through validation and audit processes; communicate findings in clear, actionable formats.
  • Partner with Space Planners, Macro Floor Planners, Merchandising Managers, and cross-functional teams to execute resets, category strategies, and process improvements.
  • Support test-and-learn initiatives, pilot programs, and project milestones with data-driven insights.
  • Contribute to supplemental display and assortment planning using store profiles and segmentation.
  • Manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining professional communication and commitment to company values, including quality animal care.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field; Master's degree in Business a plus.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible professional experience, preferably in a major retail environment.
  • Proven ability to analyze category, product, inventory, and space data; develop financial models; and make recommendations with significant margin impact.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and strong ability to maintain and develop reporting tools/dashboards.
  • Advanced to intermediate proficiency in SQL with experience extracting, manipulating, and analyzing large datasets from enterprise databases.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and presentation skills, with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with peers and senior management.
  • Equivalent combination of education and a minimum of 3 years of related experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Business, Analytics a plus
  • Experience with space and assortment optimization tools (e.g., Blue Yonder/JDA, Optumera, RELEX, Symphony RetailAI).
  • Hands-on experience with test-and-learn pilots, resets, and macro/micro space allocation strategies.
  • Familiarity with category management principles and financial modeling within a multi-location retail environment.
  • Ability to design and maintain dashboards, automate reporting, and streamline workflows to support cross-functional teams.

The pay ranges outlined below are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations. These ranges may differ in other areas and could be subject to variation based on regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay rates will depend on factors such as position, location, level of experience, and applicable state or local minimum wage laws. If the regulatory minimum wage exceeds the minimum indicated in the pay range below, the regulatory minimum wage will be the minimum rate applied.
