This role is the Finance Business Partner to Support Cost functions within Quest's Enabling Support Cost model. The Director, Support Cost Finance reports to the Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and has responsibility for finance partnership with Quest's Finance, Human Resources, Communications, Compliance, Legal, M&A / Strategy functions and is the finance lead for Quest for Health Equity (Q4HE). The Director, Support Cost Finance is finance business partner to the members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) (direct reports of Quest's CEO) who are responsible for the enterprise-wide Finance, Human Resources, Communications, Compliance, Legal and M&A / Strategy functions. The Director, Support Cost Finance also retains financial reporting and FP&A responsibility for other Corporate Spend / Support Cost functions, which requires maintaining an understanding of significant financial and budget objectives and achievement against those objectives of all Support Cost functions which collectively amount to +$1 billion of annual spend. The Director, Support Cost Finance leads a team of four individuals (two Senior Managers and two Senior Finance Analysts) in achieving objectives of the Support Cost Finance function, including responsibility for recruiting, developing and retaining high potential talent to be effective finance business partners to key members of the ELT.

The position will be based (min 3 days/week) at the Company's Secaucus, NJ headquarters.



Responsibilities:

  • Engage leaders within the supported functions to drive behaviors around costs and headcount. Understand the business needs of supported functions and the drivers of spend, balanced against the need for spending controls and influencing appropriate levels of spend in all areas, including expenses and capital. Recommend appropriate cost control initiatives, and drive adherence to these and other announced initiatives including hiring controls, spending controls, and capital spend.
  • Interact closely with leaders of the supported functions in development of accurate and timely operating and capital budgets, analysis of actual results vs. budget / Outlook, identification of risks / opportunities to be incorporated into monthly Outlooks, monitor headcount statistics and drive best practices to facilitate stewardship of the Company's financial resources.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the finance organization to align understanding and implications of initiatives or changes within supported functions that impact other areas of the Company and vice versa.
  • Produce value-added monthly reporting data for the functional leaders that provides actionable insights. Provide analysis to functional leaders on spending trends, watchouts, issues, and drive actions to ensure appropriate resolution and behavior. Drive enhanced understanding of spend levels with Senior Managers and Senior Finance Analysts within the Support Cost Finance function.
  • Oversee month-end close activities including appropriate coordination with accounting colleagues with respect to information to support accruals and other close related journal entries.
  • Provide Q4HE leadership and associated ELT with financial expertise, cash flow management, grant proposal analysis and oversight of authorization matrix compliance.
  • Oversee the performance of controls in place to appropriately account for and safeguard assets and maintain compliance with Company policy and procedures.
  • Drive and support the development and implementation of departmental goals and organization structure including enhanced reporting requirements.

Supervision Exercised:



  • Responsible for performance management and talent development of four Support Cost Finance team members, two direct reports (2 Senior Managers) and 2 indirect reports (reporting to the two Senior Managers).
  • Coach and guide Senior Managers through performance management and talent development of 2 Senior Finance Analysts.
  • Set clear and realistic goals for the Support Cost Finance team that align to organizational goals and requirements of internal financial reporting / financial close processes.



Qualifications:

  • Require 4-Year College Degree in Accounting, Finance or Engineering
  • CPA and/or MBA required
  • 10-12+ years relevant finance business partner or equivalent experience, preferably in the health services sector.
  • Strong financial acumen, critical thinking and framing and influencing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of operational and financial processes and practical application of financial and strategic analysis.
  • Experience with establishing annual budgets, assessing actual performance against budget and forecasting impact of variances to budget assumptions.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple work streams.
