Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Director - Pharmacy, Ambulatory Services.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in daily supervision of support staff for complex office operations. The Assistant Director of Pharmacy for Ambulatory Services is responsible for the oversight and coordination of activities and services at all NYU Langone Cancer Center Clinics. Responsibilities include scheduling; staffing; training; recruitment; retention, discipline and staff satisfaction; safe and cost-effective use of medications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participates and assists in the management and administration of all areas of the department as needed including development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures and by periodically taking call.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance duties.
  • Supervises, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Pharmacy Staff to provide optimal pharmaceutical support to patients in a safe, cost effective, appropriate and efficacious fashion.
  • Improves and supports patient safety initiatives by suggesting, recommending and enforcing safe medication practices.
  • In collaboration with management team, establishes and ensures consistent implementation of department policies and standards.
  • Evaluates performance, conducts annual performance and competency assessments, determines disciplinary actions and performs other human resource related actions as needed.
  • Monitors staff compliance to criteria established for various drugs.
  • Oversees the maintenance, implementation and upgrade of automated dispensing machines and other automated / computerized applications as they are obtained.
  • Serves as a resource to pharmacists, medical and nursing staff.
  • Participates in providing experiential training for Pharmacy Residents and Pharmacy Students.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and/or develops policies, procedures and delineates necessary measures to achieve same.
  • Travels to article 28 sites to provide pharmacy administrative support, as needed
  • Standardizes medication management standards, per TJC, when appropriate at off-site article 28 locations
  • Liaison for article 28 ambulatory locations for medication safety standards
  • May provide direct and indirect supervision of pharmacy staff at article 28 ambulatory pharmacy locations
  • Maintains awareness of contemporary trends in the profession through the professional literature and regular attendance at professional organization meetings and/or seminars
  • Participates collegially in the development of new programs, services, practices of the department.
  • Helps develop key performance indicators (KPI) and performance evaluation metrics to present to senior leadership.
  • Standardizes medication management standards at article 28 locations, per TJC, as it pertains to pharmacy and HOPD.
  • Works with regional leadership to support and improve HRO initiatives by fostering patient safety, enforcing safe medication practices and providing high quality pharmacy services.
  • Maintains financial vigilance and P&L oversight, pharmacy charge capture and 340B program compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a NYS Pharmacist License and Registration BS Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy 5 years experience in Hospital Pharmacy Management Excellent verbal and written communication skills..

Required Licenses: Pharmacist License-NYS

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctor of Pharmacy or Advanced Degree Preferred Residency in Hospital Pharmacy Practice Preferred. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Extensive knowledge of database management and clinical / pharmacy systems.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $146,384.38 - $210,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
