Shift:Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm Department: Medical Coding & Data Management. This position is available as remote. * Base Pay Range: $23.66 - $37.36 per hour, based on experience ABOUT THE JOB MU Health Care is looking for a detail-oriented Certified Medical Coding Auditor to join our team. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION Conduct internal and coordinate external coding audits of medical record documentation to ensure coding is complete and accurate per official coding guidelines, third-party payer guidelines, and internal facility policies. Develop and implement detailed audit plans and programs to ensure compliance with MU Health Care coding guidelines, official coding guideline changes, and new code implementations. Conduct regular coding audits to ensure compliance with changes in official coding guidelines and new code implementations. Analyze audit and denial responses and findings to ensure concordance with all applicable rules and regulations. Provide root cause and corrective action plans for identified issues. Plan and execute education programs and presentations for Health Information Management (HIM) coding staff based on internal and external audit findings. Conduct pre-billing new hire audit reviews and education per Corporate Compliance policies to ensure appropriate code assignment and proper charge capture. May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, CPT coding, diagnosis-related groups (DRG), and coding guidelines. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate's degree in health information management or a health related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Three (3) years of experience in coding, audit, or denials coordination. One of the following certifications: * Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) * Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), by AHIMA * Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by AHIMA * Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) certification by American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) * Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) by AAPC New hires with Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification by AHIMA, or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) must obtain RHIA, RHIT, CCS, COC, or CIC within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
