Martial Arts: Tae Kwon Do - Houston Texans

Job Summary:

Provides educational Martial Arts programs for our members. Teaches new skills to members to help them develop martial arts techniques while focusing on life skills such as respect, confidence, and discipline. Instructs safe, exciting and comprehensive Martial Arts training programs.



Essential Functions:



  1. Implements lesson plans within the established guidelines and tailors them to the skill level of the participants. Plans should include teaching new techniques, practicing strikes on pads or heavy bags, sparring, meditation, stretching, conditioning, and discussing the history of Martial Arts.


  2. Help each participant achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation of discipline and sportsmanship and an increase in self-esteem.
  3. Administer exams for participants to advance to the next belt level.
  4. Maintain inventory of uniforms, belts and other training equipment and gear.
  5. Supervises participants in the program under the direction of the Director.
  6. Assists with the set-up and breakdown of activities and cleaning of the program area.
  7. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  8. Acts as a role model to participants by exemplifying the YMCA's five core values.
  9. Maintains positive relations with children, parents and other staff.
  10. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
  11. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and equipment.
  12. Maintain program site, equipment and program records.
  13. Attend and participate in program activities, staff meetings and staff trainings.
  14. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  15. Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
  16. Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.


Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 (The instructor must be at least 5 years older than the oldest participant).
  • Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED.
  • At least one year of related experience.
  • Current student in Unified Adult Tae Kwon Do and must be a black belt.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

2. At least 21 years of age.

3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.

4. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

5. Experience in Martial Arts. Must be a current student in Martial Arts at the black belt level.

6. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities

7. Previous experience with diverse populations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with demonstrated interested in the welfare of children; prior childcare or baby-sitting experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
