Job Summary

The Instructor of PGA Golf Management (PGM) will have an initial assignment that will include teaching undergraduate courses, providing curriculum input on college and university committees and/or initiatives, and performing other duties as assigned.

The instructor will serve as a full-time (9-month) faculty member in the PGA Golf Management (PGM) Program, housed within the Lutgert College of Business. The primary focus will be on teaching facility management and coaching-related courses, while supporting all aspects of the accredited PGA 3.1 curriculum. The instructor will contribute to the academic, professional, and co-curricular development of students, while promoting program excellence and student success.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Teach PGM courses with a focus on Facility Management and Teaching & Coaching in alignment with the PGA 3.1 curriculum.
  • Prepare and deliver course materials, including syllabi, lectures, assignments, and assessments.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain regular office hours and support student success through effective communication and advising.
  • Utilize the university's learning management system and other instructional technologies.
  • Assist in marketing, recruitment, and retention of students in the PGA Golf Management program.
  • Support student success through involvement in program-level activities (e.g., tournaments, community service, and PGM student organization events).
  • Provide limited golf instruction and mentoring as needed.
  • Review and assess student submissions within the PGA Work Experience Portfolio.
  • Proctor PGA Knowledge Tests and Game Seminars as assigned.
  • Assist in coordinating internship placements and supporting students during internship experiences.
  • Help ensure student engagement with PGA of America requirements and Work Experience Activities.
  • Maintain active PGA membership in good standing and participate in PGA Chapter and Section events.
  • Support PGA University Program accreditation and compliance with PGA 3.1 curriculum standards.
  • Participate in strategic planning and implementation of program goals in alignment with the Lutgert College of Business.
  • Represent the PGM program at university and community events, including recruitment fairs, PGMSA tournaments, and networking events (evenings/weekends may be required).
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university meetings, faculty evaluations, curriculum development, and accreditation processes.
  • Contribute to service at the institutional, community, and professional levels.
  • Foster a positive, student-centered learning environment with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and advise students constructively.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in an appropriate area of specialization from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in a related discipline.
  • At least three (3) years as a Class A Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) of America member in good standing.
  • Two or more years in a management role (e.g. Head professional or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in an appropriate area of specialization from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.
  • Graduate of a PGA Golf Management University program and familiarity with the most current PGA/PGM university curriculum.
  • Four (4) years of experience in a management-level position (e.g., Head Professional) in the golf industry.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the discipline(s).
  • Understands how to use digital and interactive technologies to efficiently and effectively achieve specific learning goals.
  • Knowledge of critical thinking processes and understanding how to help learners develop high-level questioning skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of inquiry-based instructional models and strategies.
  • Knowledge and ability to use technology in various teaching modalities (e.g. Face-to-face, synchronous online or asynchronous online).
  • Knowledge and ability in using using the PGA Canvas or related technology.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders both within and outside the University in developing and delivering instruction, resulting in improved student learning.
