The Role:

Entegris is seeking a motivated Product Development Engineer to join a dynamic team responsible for particle analyzer and concentration monitor products in Bloomington, MN as part of the Scientific Instrument Business Unit within Entegris' Advanced Purity Solutions Division. This segment develops technologies that support design and development of the most advanced semiconductor applications in the world.

This role will be responsible for supporting the development and technical advancement of Particle Monitoring and Concentration Monitoring equipment product designs from conception through commercialization.

The Product Engineer will design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacture of assemblies, components, products, test apparatus and will oversee the manufacture of these devices, systems, and equipment. This role is critical in terms of managing external partners and supporting software engineering projects related to integration with product design and function. The Product Engineer should be familiar with stage-gate technology development as well as design, documentation, and layout product formats to satisfy either requirements for new product introduction or initiatives of existing products.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage and sustain particle sizing and/or concentration product(s) through entire lifecycle, from initial release, through manufacturing, to sunset, including change necessary for business continuity

  • Identify deficiencies in processes and products using data driven methods, and develop improvements to address deficiencies

  • Integrate customer feedback by gathering and analyzing to achieve product improvements and new development initiatives

  • Help conceptualize, design, build, and qualify various lab equipment, fixtures and tooling

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives with manufacturing and business alignment, including but not limited to resolving quality notifications, corrective actions, supplier capability, quality assurance, process optimization

  • Serve as a product subject matter expert for designing, maintaining, modifying, implementing and improving products, instruments, components, or systems for industrial or commercial purposes

  • Lead or co-lead projects related to technology development and new product introduction, from concept through release to low or high-volume manufacturing. Responsibilities include leading phase gate projects, design and concept reviews, prototyping, documentation creation, regulatory certification, design verification test, product validation and qualification, tracking of resources, scheduling, assessing risk and mitigating, estimate costs

  • Conceptualize, design and develop new, derivative and existing product offerings to ensure performance and advancement of technology

  • Characterize and test products to ensure specified requirements are met; oversee release to manufacturing activity by leading design verification testing, validation/qualification efforts, build and test of prototype systems

  • Provide documentation support such as creating/maintaining drawings, SOPs, test procedures, test data, routings

  • Write technical reports and compiling data as evidence to support qualification of product or change to product, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or requirements

  • Evaluate designs for manufacturability, including assessing risk and managing using creative mitigation strategies

  • Vendor and supplier coordination by managing relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components and services

  • Collaborate cross functionally with engineering, new product introduction, product management, customers to maintain alignment and ensure project success

  • Assist in performing root cause analysis on quality issues on new and existing products; troubleshooting responsibility to recognize design vs functional vs assembly issues

  • Exhibit sounds judgement and decision making, driven with data, based on schedule and cost impact

  • Mentor junior engineers, interns, and co-op roles

What You'll Need:

  • Leadership: Demonstrated track record and ability to comprehend product design/performance/application/use, improve released products (quality, cost, suppliers, lead-times), translate design intent into scalable and robust manufacturable solutions, manage product configurations, collaborate with supply chain/operations when urgency escalates and resolve issues quickly, define product specifications/requirements, release comprehensive engineering and process documentation, innovate and create solutions to technical problems

  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent, and 10+ years of directly related experience is required, advanced degree preferred, licensed as a professional engineer is a plus

  • Experience: Experience with product lifecycle management, BOM structuring/maintenance, change control, design for manufacturability/six sigma, cost optimization, technical documentation (test plans, test reports, process instructions, product specifications, product requirements), experience with optical systems is a plus

  • Technical Proficiency: Applied knowledge of industry and tools such as SAP, SolidWorks/eDrawings, MS Project (or equivalent), phase-gate project management process methodologies, statistical tools such as MiniTab

  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and troubleshoot complex systems

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly

  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders

  • Accountability: Detail oriented and ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines, self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
