Clinical Associate (Casual)

Johns Hopkins University
United States, Maryland, Baltimore
Sep 26, 2025
General Description

We are a collegial group of physician anesthesiologists and CRNAs who exclusively provide clinical anesthesia services at JHBMC in a mixed academic-community setting. As a member of the Johns Hopkins Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine (ACCM), you will be joining the ranks of an academic department with a rich history of providing world-class clinical care, resident and fellow training, and groundbreaking anesthesia and critical care research. In addition, JHBMC is home to Maryland's only accredited regional Burn Center and is a designated Level II trauma center.
Case variety is diverse, consisting of general surgical, urologic, gynecologic, thoracic, vascular, neurologic (spine, craniotomy), orthopedic, bariatric, burn, plastic, and trauma cases. Remote anesthetizing sites include GI endoscopy, interventional radiology, MRI, and TEE/cardioversion. A very limited amount of healthy pediatric (>2 years) cases are available. No transplants or cardiac surgery. Regional anesthesia/ultrasound skills are not required for this position.

Qualifications

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, a Johns Hopkins Medicine affiliate hospital located in southeast Baltimore, is seeking an experienced anesthesiologist interested primarily in working a recurring late start/evening hour weekday shift, most often 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM, in our general adult ORs. Some call would be required in this position, most of which would be second call from home as backup to the in-house OR attending (approximately once per week, total amount of call is negotiable). We employ a mixed care team model with opportunities to supervise CRNAs and Johns Hopkins residents (mostly 1:2, some 1:3), as well as opportunities to perform solo cases.

Vaccine Requirements

Johns Hopkins University strongly encourages, but no longer requires, at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine does not apply to positions located in the State of Florida. We still require all faculty, staff, and students to receive the seasonal flu vaccine. Exceptions to the COVID and flu vaccine requirements may be provided to individuals for religious beliefs or medical reasons. Requests for an exception must be submitted to the JHU vaccination registry. This change does not apply to the School of Medicine (SOM). SOM hires must be fully vaccinated with an FDA COVID-19 vaccination and provide proof of vaccination status. For additional information, applicants for SOM positions should visit https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/coronavirus/covid-19-vaccine/ and all other JHU applicants should visit https://covidinfo.jhu.edu/health-safety/covid-vaccination-information/.

The following additional provisions may apply, depending upon campus. Your recruiter will advise accordingly. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
